My girlfriend thought I shaved "The fastest in the west" with a shavette. Thought I'd share.

I never rush my shaves. I love every second of it and actually tend to drag them out as long as possible lol. Good handeling with that shavette tho :)
Understood. I also take my time and love the relaxing effect I get from it, I dont feel the same about a shavette shave. I always use straights, ALWAYS! If I have to rush in the morning and dont have time, I use a shavette and this is what it looks like
Gentlemen,
Straight razor shaving is a colorful ritual, a lyrical voyage through one of life's great pleasures. It is not meant to be a contest for speed. It is not a bag of greasy fast food. Or a bottle of tasteless light beer. Or a dull conversation that makes you wish you were out digging a ditch instead. Of course, to each his own. If the man in the video hails his acrobatics as a shave with the straight razor, so be it. For me, I'll waste my time on a soft brush, a fragrant soap or cream, a loving strop and a straight razor that whispers love poems.
I didn't know deterity with a sharp razor to the throat was shunned upon, forgive me. The man in the video would've been unpresentable and late for work, both are not tolerated. As stated above, I ONLY use straight razors, disposable, carbon, or SS. All have a purpose, the shavette is the "oh shit I'm late to work and needa a shave BAD" razor.
I don't quite understand what you're trying to say in that first sentence. Although I think you infer from my comments that I shun what the man is doing. That's far from it. He can do whatever he wants. You can shave any way you want, however fast you want. As I note in my post, "Of course, to each his own." My post expresses my views on straight razor shaving. I am sure you have yours. That's how it should be. So there's really nothing to forgive.
It's fast, thanks for sharing. But like you said it was a rush job, lots of irritation on the neck after that shave ;-)
You sir deserve a better shave than that! I'm not much of a morning person and am usually rushing out the door so I shave in the evenings. I usually get pretty dirty at work so nothing is better than coming home, washing away the day and then enjoying a nice shave. I feel so relaxed and grounded after.
Amen to that, brother!
In any event, to the OP, thanks for sharing your vid. Though I prefer a leisurely shave, there are certainly days when I wish I could get away with a quick ATG pass and call it a day; alas, if I tried (and I have) my whiskers would laugh at my razor and I'd likely pay with irritation.
It took a lot of "leisure shaves" to learn how to go that fast ATG. My leisure shave includes a hot towel, pre shave oil, nice long ATG passes with my 5/8 full hollow Thiers Issard followed by cold water, then aftershave. You guys talk like all I ever know is rush, but leisure shaves (a lot of em) are how I got to that point. Again let me stress I was late for work and only use straight razors. I needed to shave that morning no matter what. Are most of you saying you would've rather took the leisure shave and suffered possible termination from a great job? Shaving is important to me gents, but not that important.
Wow! You demonstrate some real skill and control with your razor. Thank you for sharing it!
I'm not very good at mornings so I shave at night...keeps me shaved enough to not rouse the ire of any bosses...but that's just me.
But it was speedy...
Very nice and quick, well done for being able to get the job done, out the door and presentable for a day's work. We've all had a rush shave in the past. The worst I've had is a dry shave with a single blade Bic.
I'd like also say the guy in the video shaves nothing like I do; it's interesting how we all vary. That sort of shave would kill my face, I'd have gone WTG first; regardless of rushing. I'm lucky, a single WTG pass is adequate for almost everything. Maybe if I was back in the Army and Sergeant in Charge of the Regimental Guard tonight I would HAVE to do two passes, but for me, a single WTG satisfies everything accept maybe my own fingers.
I DO really take my time sometimes, but on average a non-rush standard single WTG pass morning shave takes 10 minutes, 12-17 with two passes; from wetting face to all packed up, with a dried but not yet oiled razor.
Nice, fast job in the video, though! :-)
