    Default Edwin Jagger De89L

I've given it much thought and after many posts claiming it to be a superior razor, I caved in and fed my razor acquisition disorder, much like feeding Seymour. I figured I have some experience on my Merkur but my face has been getting a little choppy lately.

Now I'm not sure where many people are ordering from but the Jaggers seem to be the same as the Muhles and on BadgerAndBlade one post had a coupon code which will save you a few bucks, and it took me a few minutes but I also found that the English Shaving company also can calculate in $ not only in Ł.

Total price for the razor and shipping was under $35.

Anyway.. for those brave enough to enable their disorder, and in the market for another razor - here is the Coupon stuff for anything on the English Shaving Company's site:

Black, Ivory, or Chrome? - Badger & Blade

    Default Edwin Jagger de 89

After waffling for some time on several brands of DE razors I finally decided on the Edwin Jagger ivory handle de89. As this will be my first De razor since the 70s I'm hoping the learning curve wont be too steep.
    Thanks for the link

I just got an EJ Georgian last week, good choice on EJ. I personally find it to be milder and smoother than my Merkur HD.

    Talking It arrived!

Thanks for everyone's approval of this razor but I really have to say that this is such an incredible step up from my Merkur 23c.

For starters, the box was mashed but everything inside of it was fine. This razor even came in it's own decorative box with some free aftershave and shaving cream (sandalwood). I never tried Sandalwood but it's made me a believer.

Upon opening the box and extracting the razor it was a little shorter than my previous razor but had a great deal of heft. Putting them side by side, it looked like a much tighter razor with greater attention to details.

I've heard people talk about aggressive razors in the regards that this is a fairly mild one, but this makes the razor much more pleasant to handle. Upon tossing in a Gillette 7'Oclock this sliced hairs off without any pressure. Getting a decent angle wasn't too difficult either.

I only took two passes to avoid razor burn but I may be able to pull off a third since the shave from this razor is extremely smooth. I didn’t get a single nick the entire shave and the tradeoff was about 85% BBS skin.

Tomshort, I don’t think you’ll have much of a problem adjusting to this razor. If you’ve only used a Merkur in the past like I have you will most likely be astounded in the difference in the quality, let us know.

I like the look of the Georgian handle, better for guys with larger hands. It looks like it also comes with a “luxurious” price tag as well.

I didn't think too much about English shaving in the past but this has certainly changed my opinion. I might indulge in a tub of Sandalwood cream; can anyone suggest any decent brands?

    Hiya,

Congrats on buying that razor. The newer head design has really gotten almost all favorable reviews and that model you bought was a good one to try. I actually tried an 89L a few months ago, using a couple different blades over about a week's time.

For whatever the reason, that thing just didn't fit me right. It's not an aggressive razor, but it acts like one to me. That means I have to pay way too much attention to detail for a razor this mild. It's the oddest darn thing, and I was surprised by that performance.

Well I'm definitely in the minority on this razor, and you'll probably love it like almost everyone does. I just thought I'd mention something I hadn't run across before with other razors.

Have a riot with your new addition to the shaving arsenal,

    Martin

Oh, the sandalwood SC is gonna be a crapshoot. Not all of em smell the same and you need to sniff em yourself, but I believe the AOS is a true one note sandalwood instead of some sorta blend.

I'm surprised you didn't have good results with it but in terms of the shaving cream (which I have found gives a nicer shave than soap pucks) I may go with the Taylor of old Bond Street sandalwood.

It's moderately priced, I own a tub of the lavender which is pretty nice and I might even try the rose cream as well.

Anyone have any experience with either of these? Maybe I'm being too harsh on soap pucks, after all the Tabac and Ogallia Bayrum/Sandalwood combo have nice lather outputs.

My Edwin Jagger razor arrived yesterday, I couldn't wait to try it out, the razor has a nice heft to it . i did have some concerns with a short handle since i have A palm and 5 thumbs but it it is surprising comfortable in my paws. And the shave was very mild with almost no discomfort. Just not too sure about the derby blades that came with the razor will have to try a sampler pack to try other blades and see if that changes the performance. Anyway i am very happy with it so far

Actually, the killer plants name was Audrey II, Seymour was Rick Moranis.

Wait a minute, that was a Little Shop of Horrors reference, wasn't it?

Anyway, congrats on the EJ. I don't have one myself, but they are well recommended and as a consequence very appealing.....
