Good DR for women?

DH (dear husband) got his razor, now I'm wanting one. lol Any ideas on some good types for women or certain features women tend to like more? Not sure if I can post here versus the women's forum since it's a woman relating question, but all you men here definitely know a lot about it too. Plus there tend to be more of you to talk to then women in general. :D

Any help would be great! I also had my eye on the Gillette Blue Lady, but not sure how good these are? I definitely want an older, all metal one.

I mentioned a 23C Merkur on another of your posts. That's what my wife uses. It has a long handle, but it's still relatively light. I think someone suggested an Edwin Jager DE89 on another post for you as well.

Well, I like Canada. Grew up in Northern Ontario. Now I'm down just outside of Toronto (About 8-10 hours away from where I used to live.)

You will most likely get a lot of suggestions for razors. It's all a very personal choice. I have large hands and tended to like larger DE razors. Also, I think it was already mentioned, but get a sample pack. Different blades work with different razors for different people. That may sound funny, but one person will love a certain razor with a certain blade, but it will be too harsh for another person and too mild for the next.

The same pack of blades was the first thing I think recommended. lol Just like you said it's funny too, because as a newbie you'd never think the actual razor blades would make that much of a difference! I think I'll definitely try out a few different ones, I've seen a few different collections browsing the site, and they look really awesome!

And thanks about the avatar, I was hoping everyone would find it funny, and not think it was rude. :D

As one of the other members posted in your introduction to the group, the Gillette "Star" razors were made for ladies. They came in Blue, Pink, and I believe Golden
You might also consider a sweet "sort of straight" razor like a Rolls Razor, or Henckels Rapide I myself use those, as well as a few of my lady friends, and they are pretty much the equivalent of "a straight on a stick"

Rolls Razors are relatively inexpensive, and easy to come buy. The Henckels are a better shave imho, but a bit harder to come by. If you dont find any pictures of them on here, I can post some up for you.

What's the best way to find pictures on the forum?

I just do a search for what ever razor I am looking for. There is usually a thread, or a club where somebody will have posted a picture or 20.

For modern razors, I'd say that yeah a 23c/180/23001 (23c is a designation a large retailer uses, 180 is the internal SKU of Merkur's US distributor, and 23001 is the official Merkur designation. I mention it, because a lot of people are curios about why the same razor has so many model numbers...) is a solid choice. For vintage, lady Gillettes are popular, as well as long handle super adjustables. Long handles are generally popular in general, but just like face shaving for us guys, there is a lot of YMMV from what I've read and heard.

Magpie - The Henckels Rapide are gorgeous! Definitely looks like a great razor... think I'll add one of those to my list as well. I can see this is going to be a challenge to narrow it down to a few I want to first try out.

Sargon - Thanks so much! I'll look the Merkur you mentioned as well. They sounds like they'd be pretty simple to find too, which is definitely a plus. :)

I am still new to shaving with a DE (alittle over a year). I started with a Gillette adjustable, which I liked once I figured out how aggressive I wanted my shave :) Which for me was an 8 and sometimes a 6 depending on where I was shaving. I recently received a Lady Gillete Star DE for my birthday and I love love love it. As I said I am still pretty new with limited experience with the various razors. Just wanted to offer my experience with the DE razors :) Good luck!

For learning, I would consider a vintage Gillette Slim adjustable or a Gillette long-handled superspeed adjustable. You'll have to get on eBay. I use a slim adjustable on my head dialed to 5. At least with an adjustable you can dial in your desired level of aggressiveness!

Another vote for a Lady Gillette. They are basically a nice and mild superspeed head with a longer handle. Easy to use, forgiving, and attractive to boot.
