Just received a beautiful r41 from my good friend here on srp.
I remember reading a thread a few weeks ago about the aggressiveness of this tool and holy crud I have to agree.
I think I held my breath the duration of my shave, came out slightly razor burned and insanely smooth.
Cant wait to improve my technique on this bad boy.
Anyone else intimidated(in a good way) by this beast? I love a good challenge!

No need to be intimidated. You just have to realize it's not your typical DE, more like a straight in that you have to take care and use some skill. After that it's a pussycat.
What blades are you using with this "bad_boy pussycat" phoebeusfenix & TBS?
I like Derby in most of my de's although I have a bunch of other kinds as well.
I prefer the feather but I have also used German Wilkinsons and the iridiums.
Update.
Just got 2nd shave in with this guy...and it was splendid! Really focused on stretching skin and using as little pressure as possible and it worked awesomely.
It's all in the skill.
You guys are inspiring me to load mine up with a blade again. Their a nice looking razor, mine is mostly a razor rack queen. And I was happy with the result of the shave, but the BURN! Maybe I'll give it a go again. My routine has changed since the last time I used it, might have better luck?
I have not used one of these Muhle razors but I have read that pairing the right blade is very important in getting the close and smooth shave we all want.
That is why I asked these gents what they use to see what works best.

Good! Once you have your technique down and you are getting comfortable stress-free shaves try using a Feather blade. If you hold the razor with a relaxed grip, use only the weight of the razor, and angle the blade correctly, a sharp blade will cause no drag. You won't even know you are shaving.Quote:

I love the Muhle R41 Grande. It took me a while to adjust to this razor, as it requires a different technique than other DE's. With my previous DE -- the slant bar -- I would use long light strokes, with the R41 the technique that works best for me is short and light chopping strokes. I use Astra blades in mine. I find extremely sharp blades like the feather seem to skip, and cause too much irritation. Smoothness of a blade is more important than sharpness for me with such an aggressive razor. The only draw back I found with this razor is the shave is so close there's not enough grow-back of my beard the next morning to shave properly.
I'm considering getting one of the Muhle 41s, i find my merkur 15c isn't as aggressive as I'd like. but then i only use it when my straights are off being honed (unfortunately the guy who hones them is off on holiday) so I'll be using it quite a bit over the next few days :L

I've made this my go-to evening razor when I'm too tired for a straight shave. Although lately my technique has been lacking and my ol' 41 is letting me know it.
Also, this razor has become a center piece for some...lady friends... to "ahh" and "ohh" over, they love its shininess, and think it's more impressive than my straights :(.
And on another unrelated note, I gifted a fatboy to a client of mine(im a personal trainer) and he is officially a de-convert now. It always feels good to share :).
