Default This Ever Happen to You?

So the plan was to gift my big brother a birth year DE razor for his birthday in August. Much to my surprise I waltzed right into a 3rd Quarter 1956 Gillette Super Speed on ebay and won it uncontested for a very reasonable price. It arrived yesterday and is absolutely stunning! Despite its age, it looks brand new (wouldn't it be nice if people could do that?) The devil on my right shoulder says I should give it a test shave before I send it out, The angel on the left side says, if I test shave with it, I won't want to let it go. On the one hand, if I did shave with it, really liked it and decided to keep it, I'd have another month and a half to come up with a replacement; on the other hand, keeping the razor for myself (even if I replaced it and still gavie him one for his birthday) just seems like kind of a crappy thing to do. I think I just need to remove the temptation by sending this thing out to him this weekend.

I know of an indigenous people, who don't comprehend the gift as a new, purchased good. For those people, making a present implies to sever from the most important object they own, although it might not be so attractive to the recipient.

It is the value that the object represents, rather than whatever its price, is what gives meaning to the gift.
If you really love your brother, give him the razor. If he loves you, he will understand and appreciate it.

    In my opionin of course.

    1OldGI,
Yes, you can go ahead and keep the razor for yourself and find your brother another. On the other hand, I should think your brother is worth the razor you found him, especially since it is in stunning condition and it also bears his birth year production markings. That's what I would do for my brother — give him the best I could find.

The really weird thing is, I kind of feel dirty for considering keeping the razor, like I was running around with his woman or something I doubt I could keep it and enjoy it in good faith knowing that it was supposed to be his. It's outta here on the next thing smoking.

If you kept it you would always feel guilty about it. Kind of like you stole it from him.

Yes, this happens to me from time to time. I always make sure that I get it to whomever I wanted to get it to, but I do make sure that I give it a test run to make sure it isn't a lemon and then a thorough cleaning.

At least that's what I tell myself. I haven't run into a lemon yet!

I think staying on the high road is always the best. You got this razor for your brother so that fact alone precludes any other other action on your part except wrapping the gift and perhaps adding some blades and aftershave. Just my 2 cents. : )

Easy. Cutting objects shouldn't be given as gifts. Old superstition, an exchange needs to be made etc... So you have to keep it. Done deal.

Good things happen to good people, the karma thing and all. Send your brother his razor, and the good feeling you will have will be payment a thousand fold.

The best gifts you can give are those you wish for yourself! YOU seemingly have a conscience hence; you'll get a ton of utility giving him the gift knowing how awesome it is.

Don't shave with it. Pack it up, put a bow on it and feel great about it all!!

    That's my 2 cents.
