    Default The Big Three

Are there any other option aside from the "Big Three"? Merkur, Muhle and Jagger? I will be making a purchase this month, and don't want to keep my options narrow. Thanks! Anthony.

There are many. I like old Gillette TTO (twist to open) or 3 piece (much older) DEs. The super speed if you like a mild shaver or an adjustable if you want a more aggressive option.

I agree with Jimmy. I have several old Gillettes and they give great shaves. Just a little cleanup, $5.00 and yer off!
    YMMV

I'd go along with the other posters and say that a used Gillette in good condition can be fine shaver. I went with a Fat Boy adjustable and am well satisfied. Enough so that I see no practical need to get a new made DE.

If you are talking new there are many. You have feather, Pils, Tradere, Ikon, Weber and several others.

All good advice above, the Feather, Pils and Joris are my favs of the new makes out there, but I haven't tried all of them.
    Not by a long shot

Yes, I mean new. I have been using an old Gillette. I forgot about Feather. I will look into Pils and Joris. Thanks.

above "the big 3" are the machined stainless razors like Ikon, Pils and Weber. You can also go down from them to parker, lord, and weishi.

Of all of the DEs I've shaved with the Merkur slant became my favorite. I didn't mention that in a previous post because I got the impression the OP was new to DE shaving. One way or the other, it is a great design IMHO and worth a try since it is relatively inexpensive .... compared to some of the new and vintage options.

    Gentlemen,
Indeed, there is more to meet the eye than the big three. Many have been mentioned: Joris, Pils, iKon, Weber, Tradere, Feather. Some of the old Gillettes were a delight, among them the Fatboy, Aristocrat and Red Tip. For me, the ultimate open comb is the Joris. The FaTip shares a similar shave head, although with a lesser quality finish. For the closed comb, I find the Weber DLC superb. So yes, there is a big world outside "the big three."
