hello again gentleman.
Thinking about picking up a GEM SE. My question is can they use DE blades. As I still have a bunch leftover from before I started shaving with a straight.
Thank you for your help.

As far as know.... No they take an SE blade. You can still find them at some drugstores and online, but they are not as prolific as DE
Thank you. I thought that mite be the case.
Ok. I picked up some GEM blades at a local drug store. It was great to see they still make them. But they look just like plan old SE blades for say a window scraper. And those are around 5$ for 100. Will they work for shaving?
Don't use scraper blades! They are absolute crap and will given you the true broke beer bottle quality shave. Purpose built SE blades are the ticket. They are available in packages of 10 blades or so for a couple bucks (Walgreens and some supermarkets, in the shaving section). If you're big on buying in bulk, these will work like a champ. It actually *IS* possible to use a DE in a SE razor, but you need to break the blede in half and use a specially made holder (as in made yourself, no one produces one) for it, and it only fits a few models ( the standard 1912 (but not a damaskeene or jr) is the only one I know of offhand.
That said, a good SE blade is still better, and certainly less "fiddly", so that is my recommendation.
I use the GEM Personnas you can get from Walgreens. IMO, they are fine. I picked up some generic ones once and it was a terrible shave. I might as well went to a hardware store and picked up some blades. Having said that the links provided have some nice deals.
