    Default first D.E. shave

ok so razor came today ( black handled super speed , 1978 very clean , no wear in the finish or gunk or anything inside ) , i slapped in a blade and then played with the TTO feature for a bit , idk i think thats cool how that thing operates but anyway ..lol
i took a shower , made some lather and away i went ..
i first used 2 fingers ( handle is shorter then i thought it would be , mayb a travel model or something , idk ? ) as ive read no pressure , then used pretty much all my fingers and some pressure (light) until i found the angle i needed and where i should be to get the blade contact .. so then i made my passes , a few times loosing my angle but it all went alot smoother then i thought it would !! no irritation , a nice clean shave , and a second pass under the jaw line ATG ..

i only have 1 type of blades right now and no other blades and nothing to compare it to DE razor wise but i was very happy with the shave and experience over all ( other then a couple spots i missed )
i wanted to try one and also thought it would be a good way to shave out of town working this summer when we are in a different hotel every night , and i think this will work for that ... bbbuuuttt i still like the straight more ..lol..
figured id share my first DE experience !!!

I'm the same - I prefer the straight, but there are times when it's great to have the DE option available!

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

    gooser,

DE & SE safety razors can give very satisfying shaves indeed

As blade choice for a DE is a highly personal thing, I would definitely recommend getting a blade sampler pack :

Razor Blade Sample Packs | West Coast Shaving

    Connaught DE Sample Packs

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

yes i had planned on gettin one of the packs , i think ill have to use the straight then go ATG with the DE or mayb kinda use the DE for a trimmer type razor for around certain areas so i can grow to get a feel for the DE to get to a point where i can say i like one blade more then the other .. thanks again for the advice !!

I'm glad that it went well. No doubt
your experience with a straight helped
    a lot.

It always handy to be able to use both.

Awesome gooser! I have not placed a blade in my new one and gave her a try yet. I kind of want to see if I can bend my guide bar back first. Your post does make me feel more confident about wanting to go try mine. I think this weekend on either Saturday or Sunday I shall try because I will have more time.

dont get me wrong , like the first straight shave i hesitate , but with the straight it was for the entire first shave , with the DE it was for about 30 seconds ..lol.. just used it again today , WTG and then the entire face ATG ... no probs and seemed like it was super quick , i did have to hit some of the areas2 times ( side burns , under jaw line near the ears ) but finding the right angle was only a prob going from face to neck in the same pass but was quickly corrected ...i definitely agree going from the straight to the DE is an advantage !!! on a side note i was talking to my dad about the DE razor and apparently he said " man ive thrown out about 20 of those , i even had one just like that one " i told him when he wants to be a man again he can borrow one of my razors ...lol

I think the weekend is the perfect time to try out a new shaving thing, removing as it can the time pressure and need to rush - good call!

    Default first D.E. shave

Good to see it worked out for you, I strongly believe that a DE can achieve the same results as a straight, ( it's just not as much fun!)

I like shaving with both I use my DE razor more during the week and use it for my head mostly. I use the straits on the weekend and days off mostly. It takes me about 30 min to get a good shave with the straits with the DE it take me 30 min to do 3 passes and 2 on my head.
