Found a Fatboy!
I'm so excited! I decided to run over to one of the local antique shops and I was poking around in a case that had a few straight razors and numerous double edge razors. I looked at a few sitting on the side and thought they looked a lot like Fatboys so I went ahead and looked at dates. Sure enough, the stout razors all had E1 dates, and I do believe the third was an F something, was a bit hard to read. I grabbed one of the E1's and brought it home. It's in pretty good condition but will definitely look into having it fully restored. Not a bad find for $35 I think.

Found a Fatboy!
Looks pretty clean! Should do well.

sure is a fatboy. as long as the doors close tight and the dial works fine it should shave great. give it a 5-10 minute boil in a 1 part water and 2 parts vineger bath. it will remove all the gunk. then throw some polish on it and you will be verrrrry surprized!! :)

Yea, they are great shavers I'm sure you will enjoy it. If you search the net there are instructions on how to do a tear down on one.

Thanks for the tips. I'll give cleaning it myself a go.

Any recommendations on a particular polish?

Just about any good chrome polish would do I think.

So the cleaning is going good, but unsure what to do with the slight scratches on the doors. I'm finding online that maybe use fine grit sand paper to smooth and buff them out? Any ideas?

Go to a pharmacy like walgreens or wallyworld and get some of the tapered 4 colored nail sanders milady uses. They are equivalent to very fine sand papers and polish. They are usually cheap and last a few razors before they die. Normally they have numbers on them as to which to use first. If they won't harm your SO's nails, they won't hurt a razor if used carefully! They work on plastic quite well also. Use the second to finest to start. If the razor needs more effort, then go to a coarser side.
I like these best for use:
