Smile First Shave with Edwin Jagger DE 89

Got my new Edwin Jagger DE 89 in yesterday and just shaved first time. Really like it gonna take some time for my face to get used to it only nicked myself 2 times, but I am pleased with my new razor just got to work on technique and get a blade sampler pack. Anyone recommend any shave soap or cream such as TOB sandalwood or proraso sandalwood?

Congrats on the shave. I don't have an EJ89, but it is a very well regarded razor and I'm sure it will serve you well.

As for a soap or cream, the sky's the limit. Are you looking for any suggestions or just sandalwood scented products? What other scents do you enjoy?

In that case Mitchell's Wool Fat would be my recommendation. One of my absolute favourites, as my long time readers will attest

Martin de Candre is a stunning soap that would also fit the bill, but is very expensive. Castle Forbes, a cream, is fantastic as well but also a bit on the pricey side.

Welcome to DE shaving Lchap! The EJ89 sure is a nice piece of engineering. I switched to Merkur 37c and won't look back, but I would pay a lot for a Edwin Jagger made 37c.

Anyways, my experience has been that except for a few products which everybody agrees to say really are unique (Martin de Candre, Mitchell's Wool fat, which I haven't tried) creams and soaps market is very much subject to trends among the community, and unless you decide to get yourself one the the two aforementioned soaps, Proraso is your safest bet.
You don't need any better than Proraso. It's been around forever, and there's a reason. People still praise it when it's so cheap, which, to me, means a lot. Many who have other expensive products will still mainly shave with Proraso. If your only concern is performance, look no further. If you are curious of other scents available, it's a different story.

Mike's Natural soaps and Mystic Water soaps have unscented versions of their soaps and Mystic Water also has a sensitive skin version.
They are phenomenal soaps, in my opinion, and my only two soaps. Good luck.

The EJ89 is my goto DE razor. Expect great shaves. I like Feather and Astra SP blades. Currently have a Bic in mine. I have several soaps and creams in my rotation, and they all perform really well. Tabac, is really good, as is Mitchell's Wool Fat. VDH is also a good soap. Haven,t found a cream I don't like. They all perform well. Poraso or Bigelow is a good start.
