Same razor, same soap, same technique, dry climate. Facial carnage.

Hi guys,

Its been a while.

Im currently using a Parker 97r with either a treat blade, a wilkonson, or a feather. Ive had great luck and have been DE shaving for a few years. Now all of a sudden, its pulling and tearing me to shreds.

I'm considering a change to a different razor. The parker is excellent in terms of quality, but something in my gear just doesnt seem right. We moved toa really dry climate too, not sure whats up.

p.s I use nivea shaving cream, usually hot face wash, sometimes Proraso preshave, with a alum block, and some leather aftershave.

Any thoughts?

Try Proraso shaving creme. Add a little glycerin, five drops per bowl. I have noticed that Nivea has a tendency to dry out. I live in a very dry area as well.

Yeah, start with improving your lather and go from there. My only other question: was your razor ever dropped?

Improving lather is always good and usually starts with more product (especially in hard water, and since you have moved you may have harder water now). I also am a big fan of pre shaves, but you are already doing that. The one thing that stands out is the dry climate. When it is dry, I find that moisturizing balms tend to be a lot better than the splashes I enjoy in summer, and that that makes for a much better overall shave. Since you already are familiar with Proraso, I might suggest their Blue ASB, which is a very moisturizing and soothing balm in my experience, although any good balm should help a lot.
