I wouldn't hurt to try them, providing of course, they ain't rusty! However, make sure you have a good benchmark to compare them to before you decide SEs suck. My Ever Ready Streamline is my hands down favorite "mechanical" razor, second only to my straights in closeness and smoothness.
These SE razors really do give a great shave once you figure out how to use 'em.

They were oiled, wrapped in cellophane, then wrapped in paper. No oxidation, but the oil is now grease. Nothing a quick dunk in alcohol or soapy water won't fix. I've used one before. Originally Posted by maddafinga

Regarding the Valet Auto-Strop blades, they are very rough... I've heard that if you hone and strop them enough, you can use them, but I'm not that patient. The Auto-Strop razors that have the word "Valet" on the part that holds the blade are a little unpredictable... most of them will use the single edge Feather blades that you get at Razor Blades & More, but there are a couple of varieties of those that won't accept those blades. The older version of the Auto Strop razor that doesn't say VALET on the part of the razor that holds the blade will use the Feathers, but will also use regular GEM or CVS single edge blades if you modify them like this:

What is the difference of an Ever-Ready 1912 and a (Lather Catcher) ? I am very impressed with my 1912 ER.!

I tried a single edge razor last year... didn't like it very much. But its all about personal preference. The double edged gave me a cleaner shave to be honest.

I had the same experiance. But I stuck with it and focused on getting the angle correct. Now, I use singe edge most of the time. It's actually a closer more aggressive shave for me. I can get BBS in just two passes and like the more efficient process.
Sure is great having all these choices. Ain't it?

Hello all. I have been using a Schick SE injector adjustable for 40 years (haven't switched to SR yet). I have to order the blades on line, no stores cary them. Schick blades are all I can find and they come 7 to a pack. The blades have a coating of oil on them which helps to prevent oxidation and they load up real nice.
If you use the blades while they're new they will give you a pretty good shave. I usually order 4 packs and sometimes it takes a while before I get to the last pack. When this happens the oil starts to dry and the blades stick together and don't load well. The shave at this point is terrible. They pull real bad like ripping duct tape off your face.
If I take care of the blades I can sometimes get several months use off a single blade with all good shaves. Sometimes I only get 4 to 10 shaves off a blade. When the oil dries up you don't even get 1 good shave. This has happened several times to me, once just recently. It helps to rinse the razor in alcohol, wipe, then coat the blade with a little mineral oil before putting away.

Hi newbe here,I just purchased a new King Cobra from CS & I've got to say it's the best shave I've gotten in years.This is the first time I'm using a SE razor in over 50yrs.I used a Feather pro blade & went slow.Like riding a bike,I guess my fat boy is going on the sale block!!!!!!!!!!!
