Default question about feather razor blades

So i useda feather for the first time this morning in my Parker. to my amazement i didn'twind up with red lather. I've used pusher and lord before. the feather glided amazingly and definitely shaved but it just wasnt a close shave with 2 wtg and one xtg.

so considering that most people have the opposite problem with feathers might i need more pressure?

I don't know what to say about that. I'd be reluctant tor recommend more pressure with a blade as sharp as a feather. OTOH, we all have different beards. I'm wondering if it isn't a technique issue, have you been getting close shaves with other blades ? Also, there is always the possibility of a bad blade in the batch. Try another feather blade and see if it is the same.

I did slightly modify the amount of pressure I use from "very little more than the weight of the head" to "just enough to guide the razor" and I choked down on the razor as I usually grip it medium way down the handle and really didn't want to apply to much pressure

+1. As the name suggests only a Feather touch is required.

Another thought: instead of using more pressure try using Feather blades in another (perhaps more aggressive?) DE. It's possible that the Parker doesn't like Feathers.

+1 on that hypothesis. I have a parker 98r barberpole and I get pretty much the same shave with either feathers or astra blades (and neither can get me that bbs a straight can deliver). The only difference (apart from the huge price gap) is that the astra platinum is way smoother and no nicks at all. But as with everything in this hobby, YMMV.

    Cheers.

IME I have a Parker 22R and it is the fussiest DE I've tried. There's not many blades that agree with that razor, most are either too harsh or not very effective, and I'm talking quality blades that are outstanding when loaded in my other DE's.

the seller told me he preferred the sharks. the lords where a good shave maybe i should try the lord with the same technique and see if there is the same result before trying anything else

Yes, I had the 94R which was a great razor, but it didn't like the feathers for some reason. I would try a Derby, which is mild (and cheap), or my personal favorite for when I feeling like a rockstar, a Gillette Silver blue.

I know I need to get out more.
