Sorry, Paul I don't have an exact answer for you, I have been using DE's about 7 months, with a large sample pack. If you get a sample pack, you can find a blade that suits you.
Please show me the way to the sample packs........
Well I would love to, but since I buy equipment from several different members here who are vendors, I do not want to promote one over the other.
Put "sample pack' into the "Advanced Search" function key words, above right, this will show you the threads that have vendors mentioned.
I always thought those blades were 2 distinct grades with some made in Germany and others made in the east somewhere. I used to have a bunch and the vendor said they were German though they were not marked. I thought the were middle of the road quality wise.
if I remember Wilkerson blades are ruff on the first use but that the second and so they smooth out I am sure I read this some where on here I have used them and that's the way they seem to work for me now I just use feather
Nothing like face stropping a DE blade to be smooth. A DE blade may be crazy sharp but never feels as smooth as a well honed/finished razor; and with good reason! It's not like DE blade manufacturers finish each blade individually by hand/feel on super fine finishers!
Paul, the English-made Wilkinson Sword blades of the olden days were superb. They are hard to find these days. Germany also produces the Wilkinson Sword blade and I don't find them as good. The Wilkinson Sword blades at Walmart I find inferior. As many have noted, order a sample pack and you'll be happy experimenting. My own regular blades are: Super Iridium and their current version Polsilver Iridium. The Super Iridium are celestial. My other regulars are: Feather, Perma Sharp Super, Gillette 7 O'Clock "SharpEdge" in the yellow packs, Astra and Israeli made Persona. All good stuff.
Yes, that's were I purchased them.....WalMart
I just check the two packages I purchased, "Made in Germany" on both.
I'm waiting for my new EJ razor, R356rs, from The English Shaving Co. to arrive so I can test these blades. And according to EJ, the head is a DE89.
