I don't have the Progress, but many do and I've heard many good things about it as well. I have heard some complaints about the loading process; IIRC if you don't do it correctly it can mess up the adjustable settings. I was going to buy one a few years ago but happened upon a Fat Boy at a good price and bought that instead.
I went ahead and ordered with an R41. I am looking forward to trying some older and even vintage razors soon. I want to compare this new one to any older ones I can get hold of.
My R41 arrived from WCS. First of all, I ordered it on Saturday and it arrived today! Whooley Cow what service!!
Anyway, I took the calipers to the razor as soon as I unpacked it. The cap is 18.78mm. I am confident it is the 2011 version. I put a Feather Blade in it and took it for a spin. My oh my this thing is amazing... Super careful, super slow, and no weeping OR bleeding or tears... I love it! I can't believe the feedback thing thing gives. The day I'm ever tired or in a hurry I'm gonna be in trouble..
Any of the three piece razors, techs etc., and the short combs are the most aggressive along with the triangle slots on the base plate for the bars. The Fat handle Techs are nicely balanced and great heft for heavier beards. The injectors are terrific and especially the Easy Rider, named after the movie, and the Paul Revere.
My DE choice for a nice maneuverable razor would be the Gillette '04. The war years and before are fantastic razors. Still a reasonably priced usable piece of shaving and world history.
Is the Muhle R41 double chin friendly :P
I've been shaving with the R41 since I got it. I am finally coming around to it's way of thinking... I have also used the Gillette I got from BeJay. Thank you brother for the hookup. That razor is wonderful. If I hadn't spend a ton of money on the R41, I would most likely be completely happy with the old school Gillette. Two passes with the Gillette is better than one with the R41, but as of now my face can only handle one with the R41. So for speed and efficiency of the whole operation, the R41 is my way to go. If I have time and I want to get all the way to BBS, I will use the Gillete. The R41 may be double chin friendly, but you'll probably need to get your chin way up to stretch things out...
