    Default A bit too close....

Several days ago I received my Gillette “fatboy” adjustable and began shaving with a setting of 1. Close, but not close enough. Well this went on until I dialed in 5 today and the results……..too close for comfort. Irritation all day, even after 2 almond oil applications to my face. The fatboy can shave close, but one must be very careful and gradually increase the setting slowly. Lesson learned……..

That is about the time I pull the ice pack out of the freezer and hold it on my face till I cannot feel it anymore.... Hope it feels better for you soon.

I find the Fat Boy to be extremely sensitive to angle, much more so than my other DE`s. If the angle is a little too steep, and even a tiny bit of pressure is used, irritation is sure to follow.

Setting 5, when used correctly, is actually fairly mild, much more so than setting 9 lol. What I usually do is (what I call) the "5-3-2" technique: 5 for WTG, 3 for XTG and 2 for ATG/touch-ups. I've found this approach to work very well.

Just goes to show how tastes and skin tolerance varies. My Fat Boy has stayed slammed to 9 for years and never had a problem
The older I get, the better I was

The funny thing is my Fat Boy rarely is set beyond 6, but when I want a really close shave I'll reach for my Muhle R41, which is more aggressive than the Fat Boy on 9. Strangely, more forgiving too...

I have one too, Like anything else it takes some getting used to. Even the blades you use play a role. Some irritate me more than others. Some vendors sell sample packs of several different type blades so you can try them. I like the Gillette 7 o clock's.

With the Fatboy, or my Black Beauty I usually start on setting 5, and finish with a 7.

P.S. Also, Taylor of old bond st. makes an After shave balm called "Sandalwood Luxury Aftershave Gel. It's great for post shave irritation.

I'm using TOBS sandalwood soap now......the gel sounds like a great compliment to the soap.

    Thanks.....
