Ooh, sweet! That's a shavette huh? At first look the picture makes it look like a kamisori.

    Hi Buddy
i got 4 straights,3 of which i done myself by this i mean i bought 3 old and disgusting straights of ebay took the old scales off cleaned up the blades and made new scales out of different types of exotic wood then honed to 6k, but i don't use them a lot as i don't have higher grit stone's, so this is why i like Shavette's nice easy blade change + i got loads of DE Blade's

That really looks like a traditional fixed blade kamisori. Interesting. Yeah, 6k is close but it is work getting it very smooth south of at least 8k. You can actually shave off the bevel set but it takes a lot of the joie de vivre out of it.
Well cool. That looks like a nice thing. Hope it shaves well for you.

I had bought the Feather Kamisori shavette then found it is really an open blade. Not asymmetrical. So i dont feel these are Kamisori's. Like one but not one.

    hi Gasman
I suppose your right technicaly however i have never used a proper Kamisori blade so would not know the difference, i shaved with it this afternoon for the first time and i must say i had a very close and enjoyable shave, which i found to be as good as with a Straight Razor so i would assume the same thing would apply to a Proper Kamisori blade. so i am happy with it for that reason and also it cost a fraction of the cost so i am well pleased.
    regards tony

Hi Tony. The difference in a nutshell is the angle of approach is diferent on each side. They are made to shave with only one of the sides against your face. This doesnt mean you cant turn them around, but it does make a difference in the angle you must use.

You can find many pictures of the grind of a kamisori on the web. They are fun but they too take a little practice to learn to use. As far as shevettes go in general, i enjoy the couple i have and i get great shaves from them. The Feather with the Feather blades is a wonderful thing.
