I am curious if anyone has a preference for one over the other. The super pro is marketed for "heavy" beards, but I have the feeling that it fades faster than the pro.
The Pro has a final bevel around 24-25 degrees while the Super Pro is 18-19 degrees.

I use both and find the Pro a bit more forgiving and definitely lasts longer then the Super for me. If I had to chose I'd use the Pro's. technique has to be spot on for me when using the Supers.
As for true longevity I couldn't tell you since I rotate them in with traditional straights and DE's, I usually end up tossing the blade long before its actual life span.
I prefer the Pro but I've used both these blades, and I may be wrong here but I thought the only real difference between the two blades were the depth on the blade as the Super Pro offers more blade exposure?

Interesting. Everything I've read says the supers last longer due to greater thickness--& that the pros are actually slightly sharper but less forgiving because of how thin they are. Curious as my SS came today, but w/o any blades (even though the Rakuten store said something about 15 proguards coming with it):shrug:
Both the Pro and the Super Pro are superb blades exhibiting exceptional sharpness and long life. The SEM photos are impressive; however, I have a doubt about your measured beveled angles. Feather utilizes a final micro-bevel angle of ~25 degrees, which is the bevel angle settled upon by most razor manufacturers as the best compromise between sharpness and longevity. The main advantage of the SuperPro is the longer extension of the blade, allowing for a shallower angle than can be achieved with the Pro. I find the SuperPro shaves more like a real SR.

Then it's decided: super pros for me it is!
I have all four varieties, and must confess, the super-pro's are some wicked edges for ATG passes on the back of my head.

This Super Pro has no microbevel; admittedly, it is one blade from one batch... As you can see the angle is very near the usual range for a straight razor and this may explain why it shaves more like a real straight.Quote:

They feel equally keen to me on day one, and appear to have the same edge width in the microscope. On day two, the super pro feels less keen than the pro. I suppose I need to buy another DX to better compare them side by side...
Because of the extra length, I found shaving with the Super Pro like using a spike point straight. Very easy to nick myself with the SP. I have not used the Light blades, but of the others I prefer the ProGuard.
I use the Pro blades most because I can get them cheapest but the Super Pro blades shave about the same (supers are a bit sharper IMHO). The lights don't have enough exposure to give me a good shave and I don't like the guarded blades as these can't give me the same quality of shave as the super and pro blades. But I read plenty of messages from people who prefer the guarded blades, as always YMMV. Others that I really like are the Kai Milds and the Dorco blades.
I just picked up a pack of supers which should get here next week so I'll definitely report back then.
As for the light blades, I remember reading that they're actually intended for women or for shaving the back of the neck after a haircut--for "light" hair basically; not the thick strands of barbed wire that we real men have. :D Not enough blade exposure (particularly in the SS which has less to begin with) means you need too steep an angle to shave, ironically making the shave more aggressive. I also read reports that they didn't hold up for very long because of how thin they were.
I have been experimenting with diamond (0.5 and 0.25 micron) and cBN (0.25 and 0.1 micron) sprays on leather, balsa and Nanocloth as well as CrOx on leather over the past two months or so. Some great edges and some awful edges, but I wonder what how useful these experiments are if I can't tell the difference between the pro and superpro.
Maybe the teflon coating dominates the feel. I don't care for the feel or performance of either after the second day, so I never use one a third day.
Are the feathers coated w/ teflon too? I thought it was just platinum & the Kai blades had the teflon in addition. :confused:
Both Feathers have the same Teflon coating.
The SuperPro cut me a nice 1cm long wound this morning. The cause was operator error. I rotate through a variety of SR's and when I returned to the SuperPro failed to adapt my technique to the world's sharpest disposable SR blade. This blade requires a light touch, accurate angle, and perpendicular strokes (no fancy scything strokes with this bad boy). The regular Pro blades are more forgiving, but still demand respect.
WARNING: Even experienced SR shavers must modify their technique when using the SuperPro blade. But I must admit, it still ranks among the closest shavers I have used.
