First shave with Parker SR1

My first shave this morning with my Parker SR1. It went very well. Lots of good prep. Used a Derby blade. Don't let anyone tell you a Derby is not a sharp blade!

Did one cheek and things were going well...so I did the other cheek and then my neck. All WTG. Today was not the day to try ATG. I have one problem area on my chin that even with a DE I often nick or get a weeper. I should have left that for another day...but I was having so much fun...and well...I had a couple of small weepers on my chin when I was finished. Aren't styptic pencils wonderful.

Overall...I was very pleased with my first Shavette shave. Incredible how smooth a shave you can get when there is no safety bar protecting you from the blade. I didn't find changing hands difficult. I am a lefty and living in a right handed world we leftys tend to be fairly ambidextrous anyway...so it wasn't a great leap. I did some final touch ups with my DE and splashed on some witch hazel.

One thing I learned...I need to wipe away the lather from my moustache before I start with the razor...I gave one side a little unexpected trim...

From one lefty to another, great first effort! Sure sounds like it was better than mine.

Just had my first SR1 shave with a derby blade, it was nice... previously I have been shaving with a cheap Magic shavette and shitty CVS brand blades, so compared to the CVS blades, Derby's are super sharp.

Sounds better than my first shave with a Parker--it didn't go well. I can use it just fine, now, but it takes a third seat behind my TI and Feather Artist. Derby blades seem to get a bad rap; I find the quality control to be uneven, but they're so cheap that when I do have a bad one that tugs I don't feel bad tossing it.

To be honest learning to manipulate the Magic was easy but the flat skinniness of the parker makes it a little harder to manipulate...that and the weight of the handle on the SR1

Sounds like a very enjoyable first shave congrats. Styptic pencils are indeed a great tool especially when first learning this great way of shaving. As to the moustache over time you will develop a second sense when you get close to it I sport a van dyke and when I was first learning it got pretty small till I just shaved it off and regrew it. After that I kind of just knew when I was getting close by the feel of the blade.
