How to tame the vicious sharp corners of a shavette blade

I'm relatively new to shavette shaving; I bought one for travel so as not to place my expensive or heirloom straight razors in jeopardy.

I use the Classic Samurai shavette with Derby single-edge blades. I was pleasantly surprised to find what a good, close shave it offers, but I was unprepared for those vicious corners of the razor blade. Even with extreme caution I ended up with nicks, or more often these nasty deep scratches from those protruding sharp points on the edges of the blade.

After looking through this forum, gave my own idea a try. I took a needle file and gently rounded off those sharp edges ... just a touch or two on each end, once I had loaded the blade in the shavette.

The result: no more nicks, scratches, or cuts. It shaves just like my straights -- although with a shorter blade. I recommend this to anyone who uses a shavette that leaves the sharp bladed edges exposed. Makes a big difference.

You can always just rub them on the underside of your window sill, at least that's what Tom does,, plus just run on the corner of your hone to ease it also , I assume you have them if your shaving with a heirloom straight. T

I use the derbys in a shavette now and then and very rarely if ever take a hit , knockin the corners off is a good idea and if it helps you thats the one way to go , the other would be to leave them intact and concentrate on perfecting your technique and master the shavette

If you can master a shavette with sharp edges just think how comfortable of a shave you can get with a straight ;)

Thats the route I've taken with my Classic Samurai Shavette.
I like using those little corners for digging out ingrown hairs and hairs trapped under the skin.
