Yup.....the belt makes everything better
I've become convert to the Sedef shavette.
It's the closest thing to a straight razor for me.
I've found that I get great shaves from it by using a shallow angle , moderate stretching & a fresh blade for each shave. at the moment I am loving the shaves I am getting from perma sharp blades.
Try a shallow angle &a very light touch.
The shaves I am getting are a very close match from my full hollow razors 5/8 boker king cutter, 6/8 cull hollow shoulderless thumb notch Prosperine razor co 6/8 & finally Boker pau 7/8 extra hollow.
The shaves are getting very close regardless of the razor I use .
It's only taken me 30 years plus.
Prep is the most important part of the shave.
Lately I've been using a shampoo bar soap as a prep ,try it it's surprisingly good . It's also cheap which suits my parsimonious soul.
Cheers Guys Paul
That's excellent that you are getting great shaves from a shavette. May I just say that it's not the same as a straight razor, and that's the whole point. However, to each his own!
I enjoy using my Shavettes too. But because its different from a straight. Far from better as the feel in the hand is no where near as comfortable. I cant compare the shaves as I can get just as good of a shave from any razor i use. Practice makes perfect.
Now days even prep doesnt seem to matter a lot. But Im guessing its just because I only use great soaps and making lather is like second nature.
Keep at it and it all just comes together. I always wanted to do the Lye Soap challenge but never made it to a gathering. Maybe some day.
I started with a straight razor and only recently bought a shavette. I wanted something for travel and something for when I don't have time to strop and oil properly (like when I wife is rushing me to go somewhere and she is still late :D even though I'm ready). I listened to all of the comments and took them to heart about the differences. What I learned though, is that both are good, just slightly different. I enjoy both and get great shaves from both. I am not going to be one who knocks shavettes at all.
