Default Just like riding a bicycle!

As some of you may know, I joined SRP after receiving a shavette for my birthday. I had been using an old Gillette Slim from 1962 as my main DE razor with Feather blades. Since receiving my present, I have used nothing but the shavette with the feather blade and it feels just like I remember my grandfather's old straight felt before it was stolen some years ago. Before long, I may have to dive in with both feet and get a new straight. Any suggestions on which straight could hold an edge comparable to the feather/shavette combo I'm using now? Thanks for any/all suggestions.

I'm not sure there is a blade to blade comparison. When it comes to buying a shave ready blade there are a few shops in Canada though. You likely will want to shop closest to home, and the Classic Edge does a nice job on new razors, and is close. The Gentleman's blade is on the west coast and also sells shave ready blades. The Buy/Sell/Trade forum here as a lot of shave ready razors on a regular basis and probably the best place to find deals. There is a good eastern Canada contingent on the forum and I suspect you may want to take in the next meet in your area. They are a great learning venue and are a ton of fun.

Rez pretty much nailed it, you can not really compare straights to shavettes. This is my opinion and has been since I started, the DE or single edge blade used in a shavette is a different type of sharp not to mention they have flex where a straight razor really does not. A straight razor can be made incredibly sharp no doubt but IMO sharp like DE no. It is just not apples to apples : )
Also on buying Rez nailed that the B/S/T on here would be a great place, seeing you are from Canada I know things being shipped can get pricey so I can not help much there.
And on naming a brand/blade that will compare to your feather, I have not used the feather blades. I have used a shavette that is how I started as well. I would say if you buy a quality straight be it used/vintage or new and it is honed properly you shall not be disappointed Sir. Wish you the best in your adventure
