hart steel brand vs. carbon steel razors

I bought a hart steel razor and it is really a nice razor but i find i have a much harder time keeping it sharp. it responds much dirrerentally to sropping or cromium oxide than my dovos do. so much that i find i dont pick it up very much anymore. does anyone else have any comments about moving from basic carbon steel to stainless or 01 tooling steel? its also very heavy as its not full hollow. i have considered selling a few times but it cost me 50 bucks at the canadian boarder so its a 350$ razor to me.

i myself will be waiting to hear the comments .. most threads ive read on the harts the majority say they hold a good edge .. i wonder if the weight of the razor compared to your others leads you to strop it just a tad different ... im just guessing and am far from years of experience but i know i have stropped a bunch of my razors at once and have rolled a 4/8 cause i had just did a bunch of 6/8 and bigger so with lack of experience my technique was off just enough ..

as far as stainless i have never had any issue keeping them sharp over carbon but have never used a hart

Hart is 01 high carbon steel. I imagine it is the heavier grind, possibly a harder rockwell but their razors are not stainless.

I am yet to have a logical explanation as to when and why borders services charges duty. The only packages of shaving stuff that have had charges on them have been the ones that they delayed for an obsurd amount of time and opened. So are those fees for storage? Why does it take two weeks longer if they open it? Sorry just a quick rant triggered by your extra $50. Sorry you are not so happy with your razor.

The heart is a little different from the many other vintage razors I own. When I stropped it for the first time I had to keep in mind the grind. It is one big chunk of high carbon steel steel. Very heavy grind on those hearts. From what I have read the hardness on the hart is just as good if not better then your top brand razors. Hart is tested to rockwell 63 as is the DOVO brand. With that being said it could be a marketing ploy, but I have not had a difficult time keeping a lasting edge on that blade,so I think not. I can see where someone could have a difficult time with shaving with it and stropping it, Causing both unsatisfactory conditions. Hope this helps, but from this guy I have a double thumbs up for the brand and the makers.

ah i see your complaint rezdod and the answre is simple. when the package is delayed its being inspected and therefore has the the tarriff placed on it. when it passes fast its not inspected. tariffs cant be charged when not noticed.

I have a Hart 6/8" round nose and I love the edge, it's smoooooth, and it is my favorite razor even above the Dovo's. The edge lasts longer than all of my other razors too.

I find that my Hart doesn't like the paste strop and purrs with just using a Nani 12K as a finisher. I'm suspecting that something you're doing with the strop is taking the edge away. Just using the stone alone, I get 3 months out of a honing with using a (daily) hanging plain leather strop.

Hart isn't the only using 01 tooling steel. I treat my Hart about the same as my other razors. I don't find any big differences honing wise.
