Change in technique over time.

I had a thought the other day and my young mind was intrigued so I thought I would pose a question to those who have been shaving for a long time (i.e. 10+ years).

Have you ever noticed in change in facial structure that has caused you to adapt your shaving technique?

I know that we all change over time and, even now as I am only 25 years of age, I know that I look slightly different then I did when I was 18. I'm just curious to how the effect of age changes the way we shave. Does stretching the skin change or does the angles that we shave across the face change? I have been wet shaving for over a year, started with a DE and have shaved more and more with a straight over time to as of the past several months I shave exclusively with a straight. The point being that I am still learning but just curious if anyone has noticed any changes in the way they shave due to the wonderful effect that time has on our bodies, or is it just a continual learning process.

Most definitely. Especially if you gain or lose a good bit of weight. The contours change and you may have to radically change the way you do things. So far I haven't found age to be that big a factor. Ask me again in 15 years-har har.

i have seen a very a significant change.
When i use brush and soap my skin thanks me....but i have irritation not so often(also using DE)
FOr the first time last year when i used a straight razor, i had only a bit(almost zero) irritation...but was the first time that i used a straight razor(not so able).
the situation change in positive way after 3/5 shaving.
But i have noted that my skin have not irritation during this year and is better....is strong!
could be also the growth phase(i'm 26) but i think no...i think is changed for the blade.
After a year i have no problem and i'm very happy that i have discovered straight razor world.

Things such as angle and pressure will never change, but as you age your skin loses elasticity so stretching becomes more important the older you get. Of course you won't realize it until you find yourself stretching your cheek skin over your forehead just to get a smooth shave on your jawline :p

The biggest change in your technique over a period of time will be your skill level. As far as adjusting for age, weight gain or loss, etc, that will be so gradual that you likely won't notice it.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I guess my concern is that hairs didn't randomly start growing in different directions or anything like that. But this all makes sense. I plan on shaving with a straight for a long time, it's such a simple pleasure in life and I finally reached the point where my wife has even surprised me with shaving cream, so now I know I am golden. (:

I must agree with TBS here. In the almost 1 year since I've been straight and DE shaving I must've gained close to 30 pounds. It takes alot more skin stretching at this point then it did back then. I also find that certain areas got easier as they've rounded out alot more, for example my chin area. The neck has gotten a bit more difficult however.....it is what it is though!

So as long as I stay at my current weight I will only have to gradually stretch my skin more and more over time. (:

Anyone know if stretching your skin for shaving will make your face wrinklier later in life? lol

I'm 39 years old, I've been stretching my skin for 20 years, and I haven't noticed a bit of
change.
