Different razor styles
Hello All,
I own a brand new dovo Prima Klang, I am waiting for a shorter vintage Blue Diamond to come and have a vintage razor from Geneva NY, that needs some work before it gets used again. All of these razors are full hollow 5/8's razors. I am looking at adding a dovo Bismark, which is 6/8, but still full hollow. I am wondering if my razor aquisition plan should include something half hollow or just stiffer/heavier than what i have.
Everyone can scoff at this next statement, but i really do not intend to ever have more than 7 razors, and really would only consider that many, because my OCD tendancies like the symetry of 7 more than 4 ( one per day )..... I know I know SRAD and all that, but I will only own what i regularly use and cant see using more than 7
What would be the benefits / draw backs of going with something that is not a full hollow? Thoughts
Thanks in advance
Don

You need to at least try one or two different grinds to find out how they work on your face..
If you don't like it sell it and try another.

I used to say I would never need more than 1, then 2, then 3 and so on..lol. If you can stick to 7, then good on ya sir :)
It's part of the fun to try out different sizes, grinds etc. So if you can do that and create a cool 7 day set then I say go for it. Enjoy.

+1 to all of the above. You might be surprised at how your interest changes. And what your face likes.

Hey Don,
I think your question is a good one - and Sixgunner's reply equally good. How could anyone know if they should have a particular size/grind - if they've never shaved w/ one?
I sound like a broken eh CD? Yeah, that's it. Probably the best way to get these questions answered is to get together w/ other str8 users and *try each other's gear!* Of course there will be variables of edge quality, etc, but alot of what you're learning is the ergonomics side - what kind of blade is easy for your hands on your face. If you try a razor that's easy to use, but the edge isn't good - think of what it would be like w/ a killer edge. Is there any substitute for a shave test?
Your alternative - as 'Gunner said - is to buy and sell a few of each kind. I don't find that fun or productive. If your travels bring you near the Portland, OR area - hollar. Come over. Try my stuff.
A few members have been over, and more than half decline trying my gear. I find that amazing. I can only speculate that RAD clouds our thinking here.

I can definetly see buying AND selling to find the right mix, But I do know myself pretty well. I am just not a collector. Whether it is tools, Guitars, guns, or razors. If i cant use it, i dont want to have it. Just the way i am built i guess
The only general information i have seen is that full follows tend to shave a little closer, but stiffer heavier blades may help get a better shave, going through a tough beard. It seems like pretty good advise to try something and sell it if i do not like it. hadnt really thought in those terms before gssixguns post..... I know shoulda worked that one out on my own

Pinklather,
I really appreciate the offer. I used to be in portland about once a month or so, but business doesnt take me that way these days, IF it changes, I will take you up on that. I also am not a big fan of having to sell stuff, but not sure if i will have any choice
Thanks!

We also have a Mile High Meet in Denver usually the middle of July each year, I am from Colorado originally and have Family and Friends there besides the Friends I have made on here, so we make a fun day out of it... This coming meet will be our 5th annual one, I really hope to see you at the next one :)

I have full hollow, half hollow, wedge and frameback.
French, English, German and Russian.
I think it is necessary to have diffirent grinds/steel/form.
And I must say it isn't easy to tame the new beast after previous lady 8-) but it worth the attempt

Sorry my English
