Interesting technique

Got a trim at a real barber last night. When he took the razor to my sideburns, he used an interesting technique for the cross-grain cut. He put the razor against my skin, then put a thumb under it. Then jerked the skin down fast and short into the blade. Don't know what that does, but thought I'd share.

Not sure I understand what he did.

That's an old barbers technique. I remember them using that back in the 1950s to do sideburns.

Sounds like a recipie for an A&E trip to me :)

Exactly. New to me but it certainly works.

I do something similar when evening out sideburns, resting the edge of the razor on the sideburn w/blade facing South. Then I gently pull the skin on the side of my head North while the blade stays stationary. I think I read how to do this here on SRP as a way of getting a crisp line at the end of the sideburn.

I would like to add that this is the only time I rest the edge on the skin. Resting the edge on the skin will cause a cut.
