Just an update
Been some time since I posted here. So I thought it was time for an update.
Ive been using a straight for almost 2 years now. Found that a half hollow blade is my tougher beard's best friend and managed to find a couple of nice, vintage Wade & Butcher straights to fill the bill.
Gave up on the hanging strop long ago because the paddle was giving me a much sharper edge. Never could get the hang of the hanging strop.
Still love the vintage Old Spice shave soap and buy it when I can find it on Ebay. But the mug doesnt travel well, and I travel a lot, living full time in my RV. The Nutrogena shave cream and shave balm work really well and are available at most drug stores / Walmarts. Being on the road makes getting things shipped to me a PITA.
Using Shave Secret Shaving Oil (another item easily available) as a base under the shave cream.
Doing my own honing now with 4K, 8K and 12K stones.
My 2 shavettes are collecting dust, and to be truthful, I'm almost afraid of them. Just to light for me, I like some weight to the razor for more control. The old Wade & Butchers fill that bill as well.
Shaving with and across the grain but not against it. If I shave against the grain, especially on my neck, I get way too much irritation when the hair begins to grow back out and rubs on my shirt collar.
Have a nice collection of vintage, fancy scale razors now. Just need to display them. LOL

Glad to hear things are going well!

There's nothing like the weight of a w&b. I think I could pick one those out blind folded.
