They aren't as good as a straight & in the long run after you learn to strop right & once you feel comfortable about honing after watching the videos, they are much cheap to maintain. They are also much more fun doing it the same way they had to do it back in the day! They have these 4 & 5 bladed razrs that the refills cost so damn much but if you have the determination & time to do so, you will enjoy a straight shave much better than you would with one of these expensive fandangled razors they have these days! Once you get one 7 send it out at first to be honed z7 stropped, you will want a spare shave ready to get by with until you get your original back. Pease be advised tho that don't trust one always thayt claims to be shave ready until you try it out. It will turn out to be money well spent once you have one or two of them. If you have the money to do so, go to Straight Razor Designs & buy you one of heir kits that Lynn will hone for you before he ships it. It will well be worth the money plus he will send you a certificate for one more free hone, Take my advice & do that in fact buy you one of this, then buy you another one until you will be able to do this all yourself. You won't go wrong! BTW if you buy one or two of those kits, they come with a free strop & it will benefit you to upgrade yourself with a 3" strop! Do yourself a vavor & buy you one of these kits at firs, then get you another one when you can afford to. The Ralph Aust is one of the best kits money will buy if you think about doing this. I would if I were you!
