if that's all the shaves you are getting before needing a hone job, you are either damaging it when stropping or didn't have it shave ready to start with. You should get a lot more than that depending on the razor.

With my DOVO stainless razor, using both the canvas and leather on my Illinois #361 strop I've gone five years of about four shaves a week. So 1000 shaves.
Prepping the beard correctly will also determine the number of comfortable shaves.
The hair must be clean and well soaked. The softer the hair the less work the edge must do.

I've been doing the pyramid hone routine after each pass. It takes me a little over 2 hours to shave. But, man, BBS!!
[Uh, I'm kidding, of course...]
When I started it was like 2 or 3 shaves, but quickly jumped to 10 then 20. It then slowly crept up to 30.
I think I'm still around 30 shaves before a 12k touch up.
