Do any of you guys notice you get a better shave on one side of your face??

Ok, so now that I have your attention, lets spin the subject on its head: Does anyone else notice that they shave better with their non-dominant hand? As a right handed person, I always find that I can shave better with my left hand. Here's what I think is happening: I think my dominant hand has more confidence, and therefore tends to use more pressure and I pay attention less, whereas with my left hand I tend to pay a lot of attention to angle, pressure and most importantly: the feedback.

Anyone else see anything similar, or am I just nuts?

Yes, I forced myself to use my less dominant hand as well and found the same.
Less confidence equals more concentration equals reduced speed equals relief when I return to the right. :rofl2:

For me and I do use both hands I get the same shave. I am right handed.

I am right-handed, and I also get more cuts and nicks on the right side of my face. I only use my left hand for a WTG pass on the left side of my face, and it is generally equal or better in terms of comfort.

When it comes to ATG, I use my right hand for both sides of my face. Because of this, the angle of my wrist is more natural and comfortable when I shave the left side, resulting in a *very slightly* closer shave on the left side. However, I don't notice much of a difference for razor burn or cuts from the ATG pass on either side of my face.

I'd been finding that I was getting a better shave with my non-dominant hand, so the last couple of times I've made sure to really focus on what my dominant hand is doing. I'm now getting a much more consistent shave between hands

I only use my right hand to shave,,,, I switched to the left hand one day & stared at myself in the mirror for about a minute,, then handed the razor back to my right hand,,,,,my shaves feel the same on each side.

I'll admit that thought has crossed my mind and there were times I thought that was the case.

Now with 5 years experience, I get the same results both on sides. The reason is that the technique is ingrained and I no longer have to predetermine my next move.

If I can tell a story on myself, two months into straight shaving I concentrated so hard on technique that I cut my thumb down to the tendon switching hands. I was totally oblivious to anything else. I had to go to a walk in clinic and have four stitches. I told the doctor what happened and he was laughing while sewing me up. That was probably the day I became determined to master the straight because I thought I had paid my dues and wasn't going to let that injury or $200 doctor bill go for naught.

im blind in my right eye so i find it easier to shave with my no-dominant hand , but the results are the same !! hair in sink and no blood !! ..lol

i just jinxed myself !! prepare for a cut of the day post !!

This subject has come up heaps of times and the answer is usually that the non dominant hand gives a better shave as you are more cautious with it.
I imagine that as your confidence and technique improve the added caution would diminish though.

for what its worth I have been at this for 3 years now about.

I used to shave with my right hand only and my shaves on the left side of my face used to suffer. Now I use my left hand and it has improved my shaves considerably on that side of my face but it still wont quite match my right side.

Its probably a combination of things but our faces are not actually perfectly symmetrical. I feel my left side is slightly more hollow with a more pronounced cheek bone. I have to compensate by inflating the cheek slightly. I don't need to do this on the right side for some reason.

When I was first starting out I noticed that I was indeed doing better with my non-dominant hand. I am now happy to say that I have corrected that problem and get the same shave on both sides :)

LOL - was thinking this the other day, only I took a different approach, can one side of the blade be sharper than the other?

Still to this day, I think it's technique, but if I'm rushed, or not quite in the Zen mode, or I'm using a blade I haven't used in awhile, I'll get the slight stubble on my neck on the left side, which means my dominant hand isn't doing as good a job as my left hand (non-dominant)...but yes, I sometimes get an inconsistent shave, and what's funny is sometimes it's with razors that gave a BBS shave a week or two before...for me, I think it's mood, the position of the stars...but yes, it happens.

I think you might be nuts, but no worries, you're in the right place.

I get a better shave on my right side. While it happens to be my dominant side, I don't believe that's the reason. I just can't get ATG on my left side as close. It's not the angle of the stroked..just weird whiskers on that side..

I don't think that is the right answer, I use both sides of the blade on both sides of the face LOL
