I learned something new tonight...

so tonight i did my usual thing. turned the bluetooth on my phone on which makes the blueetooth speakers under my sink start playing. Jumped into the shower and did my thing and boom i havent charged my speakers in over a month and they died. well i sadly got out of the shower towel dried applied my reshave oil and made my lather. i concidered just playing the music through my phone but decided if i couldent have the bass thumping i didnt want any music....... so off I go.... the first thing i learned is that my razor makes sounds as its cutting. the second thing I noticed, and i really wished i noticed this early on is that the sound changes as the direction of my hair growth changes.

Yes it does.. learning the difference can help you keep your wtg pass truly wtg

I find that music distracts me from what I am doing. For example I usually don't listen while I am driving. I don't multitask very well. :shrug:

this is something new guys need to know, you guys say feedback, us noobs just nod and agree not having a clue what feed back actually is. but man i missed music lol

Each razor and grind sounds different! My wife isn't always talking.

I enjoy listening to blues/jazz as I shave as "background" noise. It helps keep me slowed down and relaxed. Since Ella Fitzgerald does not have much bass I know the sounds you are talking about. I like listening to the "sounds of shaving" with the background music. It helps to put me in a good mind set for that moment.

The sound will also change depending on how thick you have let the whiskers grow.

Some razors sing others just mow the beard down.

Just a newbie but I turn off the water and listen as the razor is cutting, that sound is my music while shaving.

I guess I never heard the feedback ,, but then I,m usually got AC/DC or the like in the background gotta rock during my shave tc

AC/DC is always a good choice... somehow I've been on a classical jazz kick lately myself but that does hinder feed back

Background music is always nice. Many on SOTD share links to music used. I suppose I prefer classical symphonic things or blues. Real, predictable music. Don't like mood-changers or music with many chorus's. YMMV

i shaved one day without ella and louis... worst shave yet. call me crazy... but i think thats why

I usually have the music going as well, this week Jimmy Buffett next week who knows. But it does make sense that the razor would make different sounds depending on which way the hair grows.

No music, no water running and the SWMBO knows that I never answer with a razor in my hand...

But oh, the sound of those whiskers being mowed down, with something hollow its like the sound of paper being torn...
All the music I need at that moment.

No distractions for me! Maybe after 100 shaves, get distracted and I mess up.

You can use the gap in your scales like a gun sight to determine your blade angle when you cannot otherwise see the blade.

What a discovery!!!!

BTW, if you're into Classics, I'd stay away from Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture with cannon fire.
You might cut yourself during the relevant passages.

I sometimes listen to classical or opera only while shaving

On, almost 24 hours a day is, on the web, allclassical.org. Based in Portland, OR it is a non profit station playing all era of classical music and opera. Only interruptions are the commentary by a very learned group of people and some shout outs to sponsors. My morning shave is serenaded by everything from Palestrina to Stravinsky with Copeland, Beethoven, Mozart and you name them in between.
