Can anybody explain the difference between American nose v. Spanish nose? I know the shape of the French nose, square v. round, but no clue American v. Spanish. Anyone?

The straight razor - Straight Razor Place Library I think the square/spike point is also called the American.

This might well be regarded as being nosy.

It appears to me that one of them is obviously "hand picked".
'Ker-THUMP' We will be here ALL week, folks! ;)
That Jimmy beat me to it ,,, :rofl2:
The American point in the library ? The only time I heard American point was once in a thread. http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...ml#post1349427
A picture of it. ------> 6/8" Rasiermesser mit amerikanischem Kopf
Attachment 233592 It seems the Irish like to call the French point, Irish point. Maybe I said that back words.
Whether it exists or not I am going to call it that :<0)

Bestest as I can discern, an American point is like the spike point above, yet ever-so-much rounded at the spike and going straight down.
Could be wrong. Was before. I am American. I like those! Don't care! :)
I like the sexy french tip, for a new straight shaver I would start with a round tip, it is safer and a bit more forgiving, french tip the same. Just my opinion.
Thanks for jogging my memory with that link. Yes, the American point/Amerikanishem kopf does exist. This is a poor photo of my Herder 77 Constant stainless steel razor's tip.

At risk of inquiring into something that may be incredibly obvious... is there anywhere that has a good write-up on why each of these points have the names that they do?
No Idea of how the different points got their name, however a friend in Germany told me that the 'Spike' point that pups was kind enough to show was only manufactured for the American Market.
I would also say that the Square Point is only slightly different from the Spike point as there is a slight radius instead of two angles meeting at a 90 deg which results in a nice little bit to bite you when you momentarily lose your concentration. Yes I speak from experience. :w
It is the subject of much controversy. In the past, many downright uncivil and argumentative threads existed.
I am proud of this nice discussion! :)
Except for the nose picking stuff!
The Americans cut corners....I'm so ashamed.
It was all in jest and it was a great question.
Everyone wants to get in on the act. So, they take a point and do a minor mod and it's a "new" point and since calling it say a Uganda Point wouldn't mean much or draw attention the just say American point and folks say wow.
Personally I will remain politically neutral and use terms like round, oblique and square point with the occasional use of pretentious terms like dreadnaught.
