The Angle of the Dangle

I have a 6/8 Henckel round point that until this morning i have given a lot of thought about letting go. I decided to give it one more try this morning and I found out something about this razor. Before I had been shaving like always same angle same pressure same direction. this time i almost laid the razor flat against my face. What a world of difference. This time it gave one of the best shaves ever. I'm saying this just to let folks know don't give up on the razor. It just might be you. (or in my case me)

Yup, found the same thing. Different razors may like you to use a different angle to get the best out of them. That goes for safety razors as well as straight razors from my experience. If you are having trouble most likely the cause is staring back at you from the mirror, at least in my case.

Since I try to never use the same razor twice in a row, I usually try a shallow angle and progress more aggressively as needed. I have a Schumate that sings when nearly flat on the face.

This is my method also. Any new razor starts flat against the face and raise until it works right. I try to keep the pressure the same always. Just take the soap off the skin, the hair should come with it :<0)

I know your right and I should do it this way but I look into the mirror and remember when I was a kid and we killed Hogs. Dad shot it between the eyes and my brothers and I would scold the scrap the hair off it. Old habits are hard to break. :rofl2:

That is part of my logic in weekly razor rotations. Switching razors every day does not make for a high percentage of DFS, they are ok, but shave with the same blade for a week and they tend to pick up a little on the second day.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the hollower the razor is ground, the flatter and less angled it likes to be during the shave. I've got some that I would swear the spine is dragging on my face while I shave, especially when going ATG. This is when I get the best, most comfortable shaves with them.

If it's just you then i will join you. My heavier blades are not as picky with angle as the hollow grind razors. also it seems the extra hollow ground blades need to be of less angle or spine closer to the skin. I really think you have a lot of company on this one.

My experience matches the previous two posts. Love my full to extra full hollows.
They prefer a flatter angle to give best service. My $.02. Ken

I've only shaved with 3 of my straights so far, but I've run into the same thing. They all have their own characteristics.
