Stropping is a learned art. Screw ups go along with building muscle memory. I haven't read the full text here, but I refresh a blade when I feel it needs it by giving it no more than 10 laps on a Crox pasted strop, clean it off with a rag, then 40 laps on linen or whatever, then at least 60 on the leather. Take your time. It isn't a race, and you will be fine.
