    Default My third...

...straight razor shave was this evening. Only my cheeks and neck. One tiny little nick on my neck this time and my alum block took care of it. One thing I like is that it forces me to concentrate, slow down and take my time. Looking forward to my fourth.

Your thought process is spot on.
Slow and steady at this point is of utmost importance.
Always stay in your comfort zone. It never hurts to stop, put the razor down, take a deep breath and regroup. You may even have a time or two where nerves kick in and putting the razor away is best.
    Keep at it. Great job!

Good to hear this. I'll be starting with my first on Christmas and I know "slow and steady" but hadn't really considered pausing to take a break and reset once things get going.

Slow and steady is the best part of Straight Razor shaving.
It’s me time and the Zen of the shave.
In the beginning it’s always best to take it even more slow though. And as said, if you need to stop and regroup do it

Good comment! This is exactly why I use a SR. Forces me to not be thinking about the day ahead. On days where I anticipate having a difficult or hectic day, I start out pretty good and no blood drawn on the right check. By the time I get to the left cheek, I still lapse and start trying to multitask by thinking about a work-related issue, and invariably I nick myself. That was a big insight to me recently -- I was not being as mindful as I thought I was.

    Sound plan.
Patience and perseverance are important, as there may be moments in the early months when a straight shave does not go well and you may wonder whether it is all worth it.

If you persevere, you will soon enough find the answer...

Now is the time to put on the Black Sabbath, take 4 shots of Yaeger, and shave as fast as possible!

Just joking(poorly). Staying within your comfort zone will get you there.

I prefer Slayer! Something about listening to Raining Blood while shaving...
