In my last thread ( which was lost after the forum tie-out ) about BBS / smoothness etc with a S.R. I discovered that there could also be a difference in the sequence of the passes
until now I always do first a WTG pass
but the second I do the throat I do it ATG ( because XTG is not so easy with the S.R. on the throat )
and then the 3rd pass again WTG
but now I am experimenting with the 2nd pass to try to go WTG along the cheekbone and the 3rd ATG
any enlightening views on this :)

I follow your line of shaving pretty much: WTG and then a mix of ATG/XTG afterwards. However, for the portion of my neck sitting underneath my tongue/jaw, I found that I can use an XTG stroke w/ my left hand. It's an extreme scything stroke I stumbled across accidentally while performing a shave. Funny thing is that I need to use my non-dominant, left hand to do the deed.
Regardless, I approach every shave using WTG to clean up all beard growth as my first pass. For the longest time, I performed ATG on the mustache area but have since migrated to an XTG pass which follows the line of my upper lip in parallel. It's just as effective and far less work/pain.

Your right, by me. If I'm going for BBS, then yes, I have a particular sequence.
Here's what worked for me, to get the neck and hollows.
I call it my, X pass.

I notice having a better shave when emphasising softness of touch instead of BBS smooth
My whiskers grow fairly flat to my skin, so for the closest, most comfortable shave, my first pass is from the bottom up. It is mostly against the grain, with a few spots that are across the grain. Second pass is on my cheeks from my sideburns to my chin, sideburns back towards my ears, underside of my jaw from the corner to my chin, neck is down at an angle from the middle back, except the windpipe is straight down. That gets me close and comfortable. A lot of skin stretching and holding, a low angle and a feather lite touch.
I usually go With the grain first and then a second pass from jaw to chin, which is across the grain for me. Under the chin gets a With and then and Against. I am not trying for a BBS, so two or three passes is enough for me. My whiskers are kind of soft and four passes seems kind of like over doing it for me. (Your results may vary!)

For me it is xtg then xtg then atg/xtg. This means top to bottom bottom to top them angle up to the middle. Can i feel whiskers when Im done, sure. In certain directions in a couple spots but its close enough for me and nobody knows as nobody is rubbing my face but me and you cant see the tinyest of grey whiskers anyway. Close Comfortable Shave is good for me.
I do close and comfortable most days. Once a week or so I chase baby butt smooth.
