Wow! Hows about that hot lather setup? The city would likely close that place down here.
That old finish strop! When's the last time you shaved your forehead? Radical blade angle!!
That water tank.....Rainwater?
Hoowee! :D
Yeah, that stock-pot scuttle or whatever it is is a different way of making hot lather-seems to work? And how about that short, bouncing stropping stroke-he hardly gets any of the blade on the strop?! And that fancy hair-drying technique with the pink towel was pretty spiffy. I don't really see the appeal of doing something like this, unless for a very special occasion like a hot date, the morning of your wedding, a groomsmen's group thing, or similar. Cool to watch in an old world kind of way, though.
I'm awestruck! I never imagined a shave could be like that. I'm not sure I could trust anyone around my face that much. It is amazing. Can that Barber strop, lather and shave or what?
After watching his technique, I don’t imagine that fellow needed to shave again for another two or three days. The barber was shaving very close and cleaning up any possible leftover stubble right away.
I kept trying to see what razor the barber was using but was not able to pick that up from the video.
I think I’m going to put a big pot of soup on the stove so I can get hot lather the way he did in the video. I have never seen that before.
I don’t know too many barbers in the west who would have spent as much time or been as meticulous as that Korean gentleman.
Looked like a Henckels to me also.
I also did a glance at the related hair cut video and it looks like it took an hour overall.
It was a Henckels Friodur. He had great technique. Lots of pinching the skin to shave the roll, final water pass, tiny slides etc.
I had a shave close to this in the Philippines some 40 years ago. It was the best shave that I have ever experienced in my life. I still grapple to come remotely close to their degree of talent. Great Video!
Great demonstration of shaving with one inch of edge at a time and how much he shaves with the heel.
I always see razors with dull heels and toes, that have not touched a hone for some time and obviously not shaved with.
Also, the importance of stropping, and a strop progression. He re-strops mid shave. Stropping is way under rated.
Nice video.
Very interesting indeed.
The barber uses a really high angle with the blade.
There was an unbelievable amount of shaving without lather with no visible irritation.
That was the first time I've ever seen shaving of the forehead and around the eyes.
Wonder what the whole process costs??
Pete <:-}
That is a great video... Thanks for sharing.. Like has been stated already the angle he uses and those short strokes are amazing.. The amount of soap or cream i use for 1 shave this barber could shave 30 faces im betting.. I could listen to that razor across the guys face forever but the sound of him shuffling over that floor was like nails on a chalkboard :)
Nice to watch a video like this..
Here's a Barber shop in my Hometown, they are pretty decent shavers, and a decent bunch of guys.

That place looks amazing. Wish there was a place close to me like that.
As far as the old guy goes, I always worry about my blade angle being too steep and my stropping technique being perfect. This guy though
I've never seen that pinching technique before, but now i'm interested to try it, especially for around the chin.
In many Asian Countries they shave parts of the face that seem strange to us. In Japan they shave eyelids.
I'm curious....What are all those creams and lotions that he applies to the face
and hair? In one instance, it even appears that he mixes two different things
in his palm, before applying the mixture to the face.
The barber's respect for his razor is noteworthy: thoroughly stropped before a
final few clean-up passes, and then carefully dried and returned to its case.
I've seen a video of a professional barber, shaving a customer in an upscale
Las Vegas salon, and it was nothing compared to this.
And there were 3 or 4 others patiently awaiting their turn in the chair.
What a performance! What a treat!
i imagine the las vegas barber was using a shavette type razor, which i would treat with much less care than one of my real straights.
What was that dark colored ‘finishing strop’ that he used after the brown leather?
^^^
The first one he ever owned. He probably started working there when he was 6.
Aka Lucky Strop.
That was a stunning shave! Wow! It is risky, but I may as well admit I teared up just now watching this most incredible shave. The connection that barber has with his task, and his incredible level of skill. I feel lucky to have seen this. I have soooo much to think about from this. Wow!
An important video for me - thnx for posting.
Always wanted to go to Korea.......
Here in SE PA there's a very well-known Barbershop where folks come from the trip-state area for cuts, but mostly for the incredible shaves they deliver. The attached video is worth a watch.https://youtu.be/lGV5U6fYzkw
Although it's 5 years old, the same barber is there and he's trained the other barbers in the shop to provide the same incredible shave. I go there every three to four months for a full face and head shave and it is really worth it. ($60)
