Before the invention of DE and SE razors, men shaved with some sort of straight razor, even if it was a sharpened piece of metal or stone. Those who traveled frequently like soldiers and cowboys would carry their razor in their pack and shave whenever they had an opportunity. Of course, cowboys would take advantage of visits to the local barbershop upon arrival in town to get a proper haircut and shave and a bath at the local B&B. Shaving might be done with a small bowl of water, a small mirror, a crude brush and a bar of lye soap, and the razor. The razor strop might have been a belt, a leather harness, etc.

We have it quite easy today compared to our ancestors.

Beards were also quite popular before the invention of the safety razor.

Not really, the camera and the safety razor were invented around the same time.

I'll need a good shaving mirror before I attempt to shave in the truck (semi truck driver here)

No mirror in there? I think id wait until your in the truck stop. Or hang a mirror on the outside of the toolbox door and shave standing outside. Hey, that would be cool to shave standing outside. Huh. I may have to give tbis a try sometime.
