    Default BBS throat

Well, it took me 2 years of trying but i finally have a BBS neck.

My stubble grows sideways on my neck and i have perfected a sort of diagonal stroke , I slice but move the blade down a little as i go. It was really scary and did result in pink lather as I was getting it right but now i am a happy chappie.

I use 4 passes on my neck, down, up, diagonal then touch up and I definately don't check with the alum

I think that’s what the old fellers around here call a “scything stroke”.

It takes a lot of nerve at first and some practice to perfect it, but it does work.

    Good on you.

I always do the three pass shave and...at the end..
I do what I call "The hollow of the neck" pass.
One brush width of soap on both sides, then sort of diagonal.
Been doing it for years. Always leaves the area BBS.
We are talking a pretty advanced technique. Not for the newbie.

Glad to see that it finally clicked and you got it.
It's a great tool in the shaving arsenal.

I have same issue. What I do when I want to be clean as a whistle is after I shave I use a towel and stretch the skin and do the sideways pass. Worked great for me. And yes it takes some time to figure it out. Most times I shave I do a 2 pass dfs. Almost bbs. That's good enough for me anyway.

Same here. I do one more step and that is stretch the skin while pushing in on the opposite side of the neck. This pushes out the hollow and allows the blade to get that hollow area without having to dip into the hollow. Tricky and it sure would be easier with a third hand.

Yep. Me too. 2-2 1/2 passes with the sideways and diagonal on the neck and ending at a spot under my chin just south of the jawbone where I have a scar and the hair grows a weird direction. I cut myself daily trying to get that spot until I got the ergonomics figured out. It involves holding the razor upsidedown and backwards (toe pointing toward the floor and going from ear to chin) sweeping an upward diagonal toward the point of the chin just under the jaw. I have almost entirely stopped cutting myself doing it now... until now of course since I just said that. Probably bleed out tomorrow morning just to make an ass of me.

Good job Steve. That is indeed a sign of skill.

Always a treat to see your handsome mug Mike! That stroke is perfect, that and a properly Outback Mike honed razor

Yes, and I consider it the key that allowed me to consistently get BBS straight shaves.

To visualize the concept, just think of a loaf of bread.
You won’t effectively cut a slice by just pressing down on the loaf with a knife, it is the sideways motion that is essential to cut comfortably and with ease.

It will take some practice, but like many aspects of shaving it is neither difficult to master nor inherently dangerous to do.

Sounds a bit like using the Gillette slide with a DE/SE. Can be very effective.
