He is a lot more confident than I am, for sure. However, that was only a one pass shave.

Coming up on 40 yrs for me. That's about right for a one pass shave, for me. Takes me longer to make lather and clean up, than it takes to actually shave.
I can do it that fast. I just generally don't. If I'm in a hurry I will normally use a DE not because of the shave time but the stropping pre and post shave and the drying the blade and scales part. The actual shave part is about the same.

Some folks have nice soft beards with grains that behave nicely. I don’t. My facial hairs are quite coarse and the grain wanders like a meandering stream.
There are parts of my face that I am able to wipe clean with one pass and others that require at least one more pass in a different direction. If I want a particularly BBS shave around my neck, I often have to do a third pass in another direction.
Yeah, it takes me three full passes and touch up.
You just have to do as many passes that brings you satisfaction. There's no right or wrong, only what is acceptable to you. A good comfortable sharp straight razor makes a lot of difference. That's the beauty of this, you get to choose what is right for you!
I can't help but notice he does not shave at all - the middle and left side of his face below the jaw line.
Why he would do just his right side of the neck and not the rest is suspicious to me.
He's doing a bit.

Maybe he doesn't grow hair there, who knows but he certainly isn't shaving it.
I would typically take about 15 minutes to set up, shave and clean up.
If I need to be quicker, I can easily do that. Years and years of straight use make it second nature. I never have to find a substitute for a straight to expedite things.

I agree Paul. I absolutely love the shave itself and still look forward to it after all these years.
I just can't get the same shave from a DE and don't really find it faster.
I have a nice Birthyear slim waiting for me when I can no longer use the straight, As nice as that DE is I hope the day never comes:)

Me too. I only use one arm for straight razor shaving now, but can still get a good shave. It is more difficult to get that perfect shave, nowadays (a present from a hit and run driver while riding my motorcycle). A good DE is a must have for anybody, and especially as we age. Some find they no longer have the dexterity they had when younger.
Yes, some of our dearly departed friends had to stop using a straight before the end. You just never know. At least it gives you a link to independence to hold onto.
When I saw the pictures of both of your hands, (Been a while back), it inspired me to get a good DE razor. I got a Merkur 34C for when my time comes. I used it a couple of times to try it out and it's a keeper!Quote:

Not only that, but I no longer chase pure 100% BBS. It simply isn't necessary. Good enough is good enough, and nobody but me will notice if it won't pass the drivers license test with flying colors.
