I wanted to get an idea of how many of you guys use one hand, or switch hands while shaving. So far I tried using one. When shaving the opposite side of my face I had a hard time seeing what I was doing. I can see an argument for both styles but wanted to see what you guys had to say on the matter. I'm waiting for my DVD, then I will see what I can do from there. Thanks for the input.
I have to use my right hand, because my left one has some nerve damage. It is kinda hard to see the left side when I am shaving, but I just go by feel and don't really need to see. Takes some time to get use to shaving by feel though.
I use two. It doesn't take too long to train your opposite hand. This way your have all the bases covered and can reach where you want with whatever hand works for that particular technique.

I shave two handed. Funny thing is that I only do it when using a straight. When I use a DE, Gem or Injector, I use one hand. It's just when I use a straight that I, without thinking, go two handed.

I started to use my off hand (left) to shave with. I found that using two hands allows me to get better access to areas on my face than just one hand.
I was tentative, at first, with using my off hand. I don't have the dexterity in it as I do my dominant hand.
It's easier to go ATG whith using both hands...for me anyways:)
In a week of trying this I have gotten fairly confident using my left hand.
That's when a cut is gonna happen...overconfidence or a moment of NOT thinking.
I use both. I started out that way so that I knew I would never be limited by just using one.

I use two hands, but I use my dominant (right) hand for the touch ups.
Two hands here...took a while to get used to it but, the payoff is well worth it.

I use both hands. It is easier to train your off hand than I thought it would be. oddly enough, I find that I get better, smoother shaves with the off hand than my dominant.
I use both hands too, but only to shave under my chin. It can get a bit crowded on the razor, but if you can get the digits to share the blade in a harmonious fashion, no harm will be done. Otherwise I use my left hand to shave the right side of my face and my right hand to shave the left side...:w

Both hands here. I mainly use my off hand to get at hard-to-reach places that I couldn't get safely with my other hand(mostly XTG). Otherwise, it's mostly my dominant hand.
Its always better to use two hands not only because you can better maneuver the razor around your face but when you expand your horizons and try a traditional japanese straight you have to use two hands.
Hey ,this is a great opportunity to train the other side of the brain to do what you want it to do. Two handed so you can see what the hell you're doing. It doesn't take long to feel your way through it.

When I use my left hand, it feels like someone else is shaving me...:)
I use my dominant hand for about 65% of the shaving, but part of my neck really requires that I use the opposite hand to keep the angle right to really remove the stubble.
Thats pretty cool. I thought that I would get the exact opposite responses. This is pretty good information. I guess I am going to try to train both hands before I get into any type of habits. Thanks for the input Gents.
I use both hands... and never more than 6 razors for one shave! :nono: if you fell the urge to use more than that... put the razor down!
2 hands. took me a little bit to get comfortable with one, but now on certain parts, i prefer my 2nd(left) hand. makes life much easier when you get the comfort level up.
i still cannot strop with my left hand, but i am okay with that. now that would be talent.

Just the one hand with me too. I thought about training for two, but really I have no issues with one handed approach so figured that was just fine.
There was a poll conducted on SRP last year if I recall... :shrug: A search should turn it up.

I use both my hands. Before, back in the Days of Shame, when I used a disposable, I used both hands. I'm pretty sure I've been using both hands since I started shaving as a kid. I can't imagine how someone would shave the left side of their face with their right hand

Both hands. It took about a month to get used to using both hands and now it seems natural and I don't really notice any difference between them.

I use both now. I'm right handed so the first shave with the left hand was scary, but now I cut myself more with the right.
I go for the two handed approach. Its easier even though the left is not quite so agile. There are some strokes I could do better with my left at a less awkward angle, but i risk cuts more so I use the weird stroke and my right for those

Right on the right side WTG, left on the left WTG. For the chin, near the adams-apple and under the nose, I use just my right. I finish up by using opposing hands for ATG on the cheeks (left hand shaving upward on the right cheek and vice-versa).
Only place I still haven't figured out is how to hold a proper angle with either hand and try to shave along the jaw line. I need to get closer by shaving from the back of the jaw toward the chin but I just can't seem to contort into the right position! Time and patience......

I use both hands. I am right handed and other than shoot a handgun weak handed, shaving is the only other thing I do.
Whatever you do, don't try shaving with your feet,:nono: nasty cuts, threw my back out...:w

I am a one handed shaver. Works ok for me.
I have been using two for a week or two now. It really isn't that hard since I have no bad habits or anything yet. I'm glad I am learning before I get to far involved.
Well for bout 3 months been using just the one hand. So today I let the right hand take a few strokes, the first was a little tense, almost like the first time I held a straight up to my face w/t the good hand.
when it comes to other things though I can say I am pretty much a switch hitter, and good at everything. HaHa.

My handedness is a general muddle; I e.g. write and play guitar left-handed, but do many other things right-handed. That relative ambidextrousness makes hand-swapping shaving pretty painless, so both hands for me, with all duties being shared equally or as desired :cool:
2 hands for me, one to click the mouse.
I shave with both hands. The strange thing is that I can shave better with my left than I can with my right/dominant hand!!!
