Default Cats and Straights don't mix

So I'm shaving this morning and just as I got to my upper lip one of the resident furballs jumps up on the sink. I was right in the middle of a pass and considered stopping to push him off but figured "nah, he can't really hurt anything". Famous last words. Just as I laid blade to face he rubbed up against the hand holding the razor. It was only a bit more pressure, but moving in the wrong direction. The 1.5" cut wouldn't quit bleeding for half an hour even after thorough treatment with a styptic pencil (that felt just wonderful let me tell you) and now I look; well, I look like someone tried to cut my damn lip off with a straight razor. I'm amazed no one's asked about it yet today. So lock up your furry friends while you shave unless you like donating blood to no good purpose. Pics to follow if there's any interest.

i dug into my lip last night without the assistance of a cat. let me tell you that the blood gets redder the deeper down. and i chose to not use the styptic because i remember those days. i looked for it, just could not bring myself to use it.

Trust me, I considered testing edge retention on his throat. I settled for launching him across the room. Really it wasn't his fault, he was just being friendly. That doesn't make the cut on my lip go away, but it still isn't his fault.

Cats always land on their feet. My dad tested that theory with his favorite cat when he was younger, with amazing results (landed on it's feet after a drop from a barn loft!) and less-than-stellar side effects (the cat died). So a launch across the room is nigh on harmless.

I just recommend locking the bathroom door while you're in there shaving. It's what I do and I don't even have a critter in the place!

Man that sucks. I couldn't imagine jamming a styptic pencil into an open laceration. Burns like hell on a little knick.

Actually, I think there's a range where they don't have enough time to do the flip thing. There was a study done on cats in an animal hospital that had fallen (not thrown!), and their injuries. Two related links:

My cat is content to merely barf on the carpet. A couple of days ago I was finishing up a shave and heard him starting with the heaves. I put down the blade and ran out of the bathroom to try and get a newspaper under him but was too late. I wouldn't mind it so much if he'd do it on the kitchen floor but I suppose that's too much to ask.

Contrary to popular belief cats are trainable. My cats (I have a couple) know better than to step foot in the master bath. If they do they get sqirted with water out of a spray bottle. It's amazing how well it works, teaches them not to do alot of things.
