Daily rotation, or weekly?

OK, so I only have two razors at the moment (with another one on the way from Ebay, and another bid pending.....you know how it goes...;) ).

That being said, it occured to me that how you approach your rotation may matter.

If you do a daily rotation: Change to a different razor every day, this will let you experience your entire collection more rapidly.

If you do a weekly rotation: Shave with same razor for a week at a time, this allows you to become more accustomed to how each razor may work best, get to know the nuances, strengths and weaknesses of the razors.

So, how about it. How do you do your rotation?

I do a daily rotation for my razors also for my creams and after shaves.
Each day another Shave of the Day :)

Whatever I fancy at the time, or whichever razor needs a testshave after honing.
But with only 3 more or less shaveready razors, my rotation hardly deserves that name.

I'm a daily rotator too but only with razors, not creams etc. Actually, I use two razors per day (head and face) so I can get through my rotation every month or so. After a while you get a good feel for each blade this way as well.

I don't rotate soaps.
I use only Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving cream.

I have a very sensitive skin, and lots of soaps and creams just irritate my skin. I found one that works, I like it and I have no need to change.

I hve 2 Aftershaves. TOB to match the cream, and hugo boss.
Both are alcohol based. I like the refreshing slap in the face.
I usually use whichever I see first.

As a fellow head shaver, what do you use on your head. I can use any razor on my face that I've picked up to day (tooo many). But the crown of my head and the hair line growing around the ears towards the side burns are challenging. They get done mind you, but it take longer than I want.

I use any of my razors on my head. Larger blades and/or heavier grinds cut through the hair easier (particularly on the back of my head) I guess from momentum, but are trickier around the ear area in terms of maneuverability. Lighter grinds and/or smaller blades are better around the ears, but need to be kept moving through the thicker hair areas.

Don't worry about around the ears - time and practice will get you there. :tu

I guess its two razor's a day then..., I have been trying to only use one for both head and face. I found a few brands and styles I like for each but not "THE ONE" for both.

Thanks for the heads up, no pun intended, I will just use two per shave.

Of the poll options, I'm closest to a weekly rotation, though I tend to stick with one longer than that. No real schedule, I just like settling into a razor. After a while, I'll switch 'cause I hate to see the others neglected ;) . I have 4 old Englishmen I rotate amongst.

If I did a weekly rotation by the time I got through them all I wouldn't remember what I had.

I keep ten razors in my daily rotation, and change them with other razors from my collection about every six months. I don't shave every day so I really can't call it a "daily rotation", more like a "every other day rotation".

I don't shave daily, either, but when I do, I tend to choose razors that happen to be a favorite at that time. I've got about 25 straights, and not all of them are shaving sharp, so that switching from one to the next is possible. So basically, I'll usually have one or two really sharp razors that I'll favor for weeks at a time. When they eventually don't perform as well, I usually sharpen another and shift to it.

I have way too much of everything to NOT rotate daily!

Except I could use a few more brushes and razors:D

I rotate daily. The thing is that I don't always use a straight razor. I have plenty of others so I'l have a Straight razor week where I use a different straight razor each day of the week. I also have DE weeks, Gem razor and Injector razor weeks. Obviously I usually just post here on straight razor weeks. I may soon switch to a weekly rotation since everytime I pick up a different razor, I have to learn the dynamics of each one. May be better to get to relearn a razor and get comfortable with it again.

Daily rotation without a doubt on everything!!!!!

I rotate on my whim. I have 5 razors that are shave ready and I am working on more.

Same with shave creams and A/S's.

This is one of the great things that I love about shaving with a str8.

It's morning, very early morning. Coffee hasn't been had yet. The eyes focus only somewhat. The floor is cold and I've forgotten where I parked my slippers, and I should keep track of rotations? We've got soaps by the cup, creams by the tub, creams by the tube, brushes hanging, brushes sitting, scuttles, bowls, mugs, razors in the glass, razors in the drawer, razors on the shelf, strops on the hooks, and I'm supposed to keep track of rotation? Good Lord, my head is what's rotating.

Nope, no rotations for me. Eeny, Meeny, Miney, and Mo are my best friends and allies for the mornings ablutions and solutions. I could be that a razor gets used for a month, I dunno; Eeny seems to be getting forgetful too.:shrug:

i have 5 razors. only 2 shave well right now. i use them for a few days at a time untill i feel like switching. no rhyme or reason to it

But your razor is a wee gem.

I do a daily rotation unless a razor really jumps out at me to be used.

I tape my four straights in tandem so that I get a nice, clean 4-bladed shave just like the new Gillette cartridges. I had some trouble shaving between my nose and upper lip until last week when I coughed and sliced my nose clean off. Now it's just swipe swipe swipe and I'm done!

i prefer a weekly-10day rotation for each razor. this gives me time to really use the razor, enjoy its unique properities and shaves. this also is about the time it takes me to use up that perfect edge thats oh-so-smooth. not that it isn't a great shave after 10days but i find that i enjoy it just slightly more if i take it back to the pasted paddle/stone for a couple laps. i try to hone all hte razors at the same time. put them in my box, and use them 1 at a time till they are all used up and then take them all back to get sharpened.

I don't shave daily (but I will, if I have to)

It seems I prefer to use a limited number of razors, which is a shame for all the others sitting there ignored. The select group undergoes some changes once in a while.

I use only 3 or so soaps, same for brushes

If my facial hair growth allowed me to shave every day I would, but I only get enough growth to enjoy shaving every 2-4 days. I choose my razor the eeny meeny mineey mo method. I'll eventually get to them all. I have about 8 razors in my rotation.

I still have yet to shave with my SRP LE yet. I always remember to use it AFTER I shave. I'll have to shave with it next....

Daily, but lately, I've been really happy with how I've been able to hone up a couple of my razors---notably, a Filarmonica 12 and a Wostenholm Pipe Razor--- so I've used them for several consecutive days.

Now, to get that Genco I've been working on shaving as well . . .

I kind of pick and choose without thinking about it. Right now I'm into restoration, so I'm doing more test shaving than rotational shaving. Sometimes I'll pick one of the razors simply because I know it hasn't been used for a while. The forgotten stepchild thing. They need love too! I also have two of Colleen's soaps to choose from. That causes me more consternation than anything! Which to choose, which to choose?

Hey. I don't like the sad face after the "I only have one razor" choice!
I have only one razor BY choice!
I went through 4 to pick a favorite, ditched the others, and use just that one.
One wife...one house... one dog... one kayak... one razor. Simplify! Makes sense, doesn't it??!! (Broke the trend on kids, though. Have three of them.)

I love my Geneva. It has given me wonderful shaves since day one.

^^Agreed sidneykidney!! My wife and I have one, but we plan on having at least 4 more! And we're hoping to be foster parents as well. :) Kids are awesome.

It sounds like you are more keen on making four more than she is. Remember woman find some pain in the process too. :rolleyes:
