My dear CarrieM:
Maybe there is still hope for civilization where a barber likes to use the "proper" gentlemanly tools.
Many years ago, the last time I visited a real barber when some hair graced my dome, I pointed to his straight razor and hanging strop and said, "I'd love to use a straight razor." He shook his head and frowned. "Too hard," he said.
I haven't not been to his barbershop since life sneezed on my head and blew away the hair, but I can safely assume that he no longer even displays the real straight razor and the hanging strop. He probably has a straight razor with replaceable blades parked in some sanitizing container, and that he uses the razor only to clean up the hairline on the back of the neck.
Ah well, nothing is sacred anymore.
