I have found that things go better for me if I start out ATG on my neck, which is S-N, second pass WTG. On the cheeks I often start with XTG E-W, XTG W-E WTG N-S. In short: up to the chin on the neck, cross grain both ways on the cheeks and then down hill starting below the ear all the way to the base of the neck.
Dang! I'm tired out just thinking about all those passes;)
Best Regards, Ken.
Wow! An ATG pass BEFORE a WTG pass?! I'd have razor burn for sure!
I also shave nearly across the grain first on my cheeks, but I don't go over it with the grain later - there's not enough for the razor to catch after the 1st pass. Everyone's face will be different and I encourage myself to continue to get to know my face - that is helping me just as much as my equipment does in getting a good shave
