What's your most ridiculous shaving injury?

I have been using a straight razor for about 2 months now and until last friday I haven't experienced any injury that would be worth telling somebody about... But this friday evening after I finished my shave I was checking my face in the mirror and I noticed a couple of hairs growing above my nose just between my eyebrows. I never liked this Lenin - style eyebrows, so I decided do shave it of. It went well, but as I was moving my W&B from the forehead area down to the sink to clean it, I felt some pain in my nose and I noticed a stream of blood falling to the sink. When I looked into the mirror, I realized that I cut myself on the tip of my nose pretty bad, actually it wasn't far from cutting the whole tip of my nose of... It took about 20 minutes to stop the bleeding.

It looks much better now, I am probably only going to have a scar about 1 cm long, but I keep on thinking how would I explain to somebody that I cut the tip of my nose of while shaving...

Did anyone else here get a nice scar while shaving with a straight?
What other shaving injuries have you had?

I cut the side of my nose once, just at the corner above my upper lip. I was doing my XTG pass on the mustache area with my SRP Mastro livi and was just a little too high up and I felt a little slice :gaah:, not much and you couldn't really see I had cut myself there because of where it was.

I haven't really cut myself very badly since I've been using a straight.

There was one time with my Savage... I was just going to start my WTG pass at my sideburns. I put the razor to my face, and there was a bit more resistance than I was used to. I figured the razor had probably caught in my actual sideburns (with a razor that large it's sometimes hard to tell where it is on certain parts of my face). On moving the razor, I found that I had actually taken off a thin slice of my face. It was small and shallow; no mark is left behind. So now, I don't try to get all that close to my sideburns when going WTG; I deal with that on the ATG or touchup pass, so I can clearly see what I'm doing.

At least now you know your razor is sharp. ;) When you cut yourself but don't notice right when it happens.

My most ridiculous shaving injuries, were from cartridge shavers, that would leave my neck bloody and sore afterward. Yea, who would think you can cut yourself with a cartridge shaver?

My most ridiculous shaving injury was several years ago when I was still using a Norelco electric and somehow managed to cut myself up pretty good while trying to get that last little holdout hair. You have to be pretty talented to cut yourself with an electric! :w

With a straight I somehow managed to close the blade on my fingers and cut a couple of them pretty deep.

When i was starting i cut myself twice in a row , i was using a spike point doing wtg pass in my sideburns while i noticed something dripping in my elbow...i had actually butchered my earlob...really bad.
I cut myself bad after that one a couple of times also with spike points but it was because the razor was warped towards the tip...since then i had my friend round the points and havent cut myself since.

Yeah, you're going to want to pluck those eyebrows rather than shave them or they're always going to be an issue. Get some good German made tweezers.

I learned quickly to watch where the point is when shaving with the heel. While shaving my upper lip I got a good nick on my cheek one of my first couple shaves. Lesson learned.

Nothing serious, just nicked my ear lob once :o

I managed once to cut my ear lob with a ROUND point... go figure...

Ok everyone, I have been wetshaving for about 6 to 8 months now....I am an avid wetshaver and love everything about it......Here's my injury....I cannot recall whether it was my first time shaving or one of my first times shaving with my straight but here is what happened. First of all, let me start by telling you guys that I shave in the tub quite often so that my hairs are extremely lifted and my face is nice and moist.......So this story takes place in my bathtub.....Well here goes. I was doing a great job shaving and not nicking myself......I was proud and pleased that I hadn't......I am not sure what happened....but maybe I got ****y....or just did not think.......but after every few passes, I would rinse the razor off in the tub by shaking it around......well............one of my shakes was a little to crazy and I nicked my..:chop:...I know what everyone is thinking and No, I didn't cut the goods.......but I did put a huge gash into my leg.......so big that I had to go to walmart and get butterfly stitches to hold it together.....I now have a large scar there to remind me to be more careful.............

Respect the blade, eh. It has been said before, but always know where every part of the business end of the razor is in relation to your all your appendages at all times Gentlemen and Ladies.

A few months ago my W&B slipped out of my hand while stropping and started tumbling toward my foot. I jumped back in one whole hell of a hurry and couldn't shave with the razor for two months because it landed spike point down and earned a chip. Better him than me. I repaired it eventually and it's a great razor once more. My foot still has all its toes too.

Do you believe we did this thread before too? This is from almost exactly two years ago. I remembered Josh's ear piercing.

Well I haven't actaully gotten more than a couple of nicks shaving but last night I nearly did the most STUPID thing ever.

I'd been honing all afternoon and evening on my old, ebay razors and was stropping on linen, paper, ashed linen and leather and inspecting the edge through my new 30X jeweller loupe to see what difference this was all making.

It was late, I was tired and wasn't thinking straight, and when I went to put the loupe to my eye to inspect the razor I accidentaly put the razor to my eye to inspect the loupe.

Luckily some part of my brain noticed in time and no damage was done.

No more sleepy sleepy stropping for me then!

A couple of years ago I was on vacation with my family and my sisters family. I was in the bathroom about to shave commando with a W&B freshly honed by Lynn when the door started to open. I guessed it was my little niece so I quickly pushed the door closed, while doing so I also pushed the razor into my right cheek and made a nice 4 inch slice in my cheek. So there I was naked, bleeding and holding the door closed feeling like a real dope with a bloody razor in my hand. Oh well, I tell people its a dueling scar...:roflmao :medvl:

Once when I was replacing the blade in a DE, I dropped the blade. bent down to pick it up and whacked the top of my bald head on the corner of the bathroom cabinet on the way up!

Bled everywhere and I was seeing stars.

Does that count as a shaving injury?

Along the same lines, I once broke a bone in my foot putting the floor mats away AFTER judo, broke a bone in the other foot watching snooker on the telly and dislocate my knee walking through a dance at a ceilidh!

If ever I have to use an electric I`ll usually cut myself along the line where my lower lip meets my chin - if it`s a rotary shaver then it`ll be a dead cert that I`ll end up with battle scars.

Managed to take a nice chunk out of one of my knuckles last night shaking the water off a double edged razor.

Worst face injury: came down at the wrong angle on a cheekbone doing a WTG pass...didn't feel anything...then blood..no scar (let's here it for sharpness!)

Dumbest injury: I have a TI 6/8 Stamina and I had finshed shaving and was wiping the blade down, when I noticed that the round point end look uneven. So, like an idiot, to touched it with my thumb...blood everywhere.....apparently, in sharpening the blade, the TI folks got a nice sharp end on the round point.

er, that would be during a "rooster" shave... managed to nick my taint. I'll never use a spike point for that again...

Actually,causing a major blood letting with an ELECTRIC razor happened to me. I had one of those "micro-screen" type Braun's. I used the razor strickly at work.

One morning, reporting off-duty working the midnight shift, I proceeded to the locker room for clean up for an early morning court appearance. The "micro-screen" had actually worn through-kind of connecting the dots on the screen. This left a WICKED wire-type edge that I proceeded to rake all over my right cheek, lacerating the S*&T out of it. I'm not talking a little nick either.:eek: It was so sharp, I didn't feel it-INITIALLY.:gaah:

I stick to wicked sharp Str8's-thank you very much:w

My worst injury was with a safety razor. It was when I first started shaving in high school and I guess I was in a hurry. But I was doing a wtg pass, and ended up slicing off a thin slice of skin. It was about the size of a quarter. It hurt like hell, took forever to stop bleeding, and the best part ... it was picture day.

My silliest injury is the earlobe cut with a straight. I just tell people I tried to pierce my ear the hard way.

And my most consistent injury is atg on my neck just under my right jaw with a straight.

Once I got myself while going XTG near my chin--ended up w/ a 1.5" gash on the right side of my lips! That took almost 4 months to (almost) completely heal!:gaah:

Once I gave myslef a (deep!) cut above my left cheek--there's still a "depression", but at least it wasn't a scar. Both times I was shaving w/ razors that I knew needed to be rehoned, but I was too lazy to do it. "Just one more shave"...:chop:(These new smilies are fun!) The moral of the story: the worst cuts to be had are from dull razors; not sharp ones--too sharp (for me, anyway) is strictly a technique issue.

I managed to cut myself with the same type of electric razor, when the screen completety broke down during shaving. :eek: Fortunately, the cut and scar that developed is under my ear and not that visible. It's very easy to nick the scar now that I use a straight, if I don't carefully "navigate" around it. I hope I don't manage to get one of those nasty cut mentioned in this thread. I don't want any more shaving obstacles. :hmmm:

My worst was the first shave with a DD dwarf which also happend to be my first shave with a spike. I was shaving my left check with my left hand, same as I always did with my round point Dovo. Well I lost sight of the spike. The razor was so sharp that I didn't even feel the first cut. I pulled the razor away and I had 2 1 inch long racing stripes on my cheak that seemed to bleed forever.

I cut myself pretty good with my Thiers-Issard 5/8 round point razor on my right cheek....I've done this more than once, and I've got a couple of really "good" scars on my right cheek.

Might have to sell my smaller razors...for some reason, those damned 5/8 round points get me about every 10th time I use them.

Silly Rabbit, don’t tell them the nose scar is from shaving, tell them it’s from the sword fight. :jedi:

Hate to raise an old thread from the dead, but I did a good one yesterday. Was using my index finger to wipe mineral oil on the blade & was going too fast b/c I was getting ready to go out, and what do I suddenly see arcing through the air, to land in my lathering bowl? A teeny little piece of the tip of my index finger.

Yeesh,you guys are going to scare the crap out of the new shavers!I've only got a couple months in myself and have had a couple of small nicks,but if I had read this thread earlier I might have been scared off.

No kidding!! I've only been at it for a few months, and had my share of cuts, but nothing that didn't heal in a day or two....nothing like you guys are talking about!:eek: I would definitely be deterred from trying the straight if I thought all of those injuries were common place. There should be a "NEWBIE BEWARE" warning at the beginning of the thread.

Nicked a mole once; those bleed like nothing else; other than that I sometimes get a hairline cut from letting the razor slip a little going over my cheekbones :p.

It's really a shame that I learned what a taint was just before I read this! I wouldn't of had any idea what you were talking about and would've been none the wiser, but now I am emotionally scarred for life!:cry:
