Reading that annoyed me !
typical rush rush rush kinda guy...
:chop:
sounds like he wanted to get into it for the wrong reasons anyway
What a bunch of idiots. You know what I think is cool? Having a class about shaving with a straight, when I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT I AM DOING. Hells Yeah.
"Painfully alive"... ugh. What a cringe-worthy article of faux- journalism.
What a wuss!
He paid 70$ to learn how to cut himself?
lol
All you need is youtube and SRP.
Wow! I'm only gonna charge $60 to teach people how to shave balloons so they'll all be busting down my doors!
Haha, this reminds me of how careful i was and still are when shaving. Even though i dont get my shavings as good i want them, i enjoy standing there taking my time.
...and it reminds of my last shave, yesterday, hehe. I could really feel the edge of the razor very light touching my left ear on the lowest part, that small fleshy bit. I had to take a small break and rinse with some water to check if my ear was still intact.
With great relief i lathered up the rinsed part of the cheek and continued shaving with a small bump in my stomach :fim:

Rikard
$70 to learn how to shave. Wow there is a sucker born every minute. I learned straight razor shaving several years ago by doing it and then checking in here for info. That guy seems to be a real operator.
You know I have been shaving for 38 years and yes a straight is different but the concept is the same. It isn't rocket science. Later face, hold sharp inpliment to skin, take off lather and wiskers, leave skin.
Sweet, Utopian! I've been having major problems with hairy balloons lately. PM sent for sure!
As Red Foreman would say: "What a dumba$$!!"
Just shows that some people shouldn't try to use sharp instruments. :ziplip:
i have always believed the best way to learn is to try it yourself everybody does something a liitle bit different. i recurited a fellow str8 shaver the other day at a family get together he said he couldent find a razor for under $200 i dont know where he was looking but i directed him to vintage for a new razor answered all his questions to the best of my abilty and sent him to srp for the help he wil need to be a sucessful str8 shaver the guy in the paper sounds like you pay him $70 he tells you how to hold the blade and stretch the skin and then youre on your own man just buy lynss dvd and save some money
"Like back-scratching, shaving is an act much more easily performed on others than on oneself. Which explains why our grandfathers went to the barber for a shave"
What?
All of a sudden, each time a man needed a shave he headed to his barber? That would cost him a fortune...
From time to time, yes, a man would get a barber shave, but most of the time he would shave himself, right?
i could see asking someone advice, in person or online...or a dvd even. but the best way is to learn yourself. i know my parents weren't shelling out money for me to learn how to ride a bike. i fell, with a scraped knee, probably cried a little bit. then, i tried again.
like with shaving with the cutthroat, i've cut myself. adjusted after seeing how i cut myself, since it wasn't that hard to figure out, and tried again.
i wonder how many barbers pre-1960, even way earlier, would charge their patrons to teach them how to shave.
Stick to dancing. :D
There are so many people in Manhattan that there will always be someone willing to pay for anything.
Silly story yes but it does show that there aren't really that many folks that are willing to do something themselves these days.
We are all an unusual sort I'm sure.

I hate any article on straight shaving, already too much competition on ebay :)
Red
If you look at the pictures, they're using the kind where you insert the replaceable blade. So he didn't even get to use the genuine article for his 70 bucks.
