Tip: Easy way to go ATG under chin

For the last three days I've been trying to get BBS under my chin, easily the hardest part to shave on my face (besides the actual border/point of the chin) and I figured out what works best for me.

So, when going ATG under the chin, lather up real good, and as soon as you don't have enough lather there, just relather, you need plenty of lather. A good soap helps here, I noticed I get a much more comfortable shave using TABAC soap then using for example the blue Wilkinson soap.

Now I'm a right hand person, but I shave with both hands. However flat under your chin it doesn't seem to matter what hand you use, considering it's in the middle. I suggest using your dominant hand. Then fold open the knife so it's in a line with the handle. It should basically look like one of those asian straight straight shavers.

This way I found, it's very easy to maintain a steady angle, apply no pressure, yet have enough 'leverage' to keep the momentum up for those coarsers hairs that usually grow there.

You should hold the razor like you would hold a spoon when feeding a baby (but the blase should be directly in line with your arm, not in any angle, this makes it much more easier to hold a good angle as it's your entire arm that is doing the work and not your little wrist swinging around like a maniac), your thumb should point to the sky. You should be holding the razor with about the same grip and fingers as you would when stropping. And then shave with your arm/elbow, not with your wrist, just the same principle as why you don't punch from your elbow but from your hips.

Anyhow, this works magic for me, I get absolutely BBS and no cuts. I have to stress that the angle you use when doing is a very shallow one like others have pointed out to me, this is very easy when holding the razor this way because you're pointing your thumb up to the sky, and it's easier to hold a low angle then to make a 90° angle and chop your chin off. Use short strokes, it will increase your chances of BBS as it will decrease the chance of you missing spots and leaving hair (at least for me!). And it will also prolong the shave which is great no matter ow you look at it :w

I know I'm a newbie, but it works for me and in case you just can't get it BBS under there, doesn't really hurt you to try this now does it!

That's about how i do it. I can't contort to get a controlled hold with the conventional shave grip.

I have been working on that and actually did it for the first time yesterday. I didn't mess with it today but I may worki it in to the routine. I found the blade angle and difficulty finding the right way to stretch hindered me. WTG and XTG have been good enough. I only wanted to do it to prove that I can. OTOH, ATG on the upper lip is one I tried once and that was enough for me. I will leave that to those more adept at handling their razor. :)
