I always shave after a shower but it's so dry out here that you need a towel or hot water while shaving as well. 5 minutes out of the shower and everything is bone dry again including your whiskers. I've taken to heating water on the stove, pouring it into an insulated coffee carafe and taking that into the bathroom with me. Then before/while shaving just pour over half a hand towel in the sink as needed. Bit of hot water onto the soap cake and over the brush in the lather bowl before jumping in the shower. When you get out of the shower everything is ready for making uber lather.

I always use only a shower, it seems like the only sensible solution to me, it saves me time and works great.

Anyone know of a vendor that sells shaving towels?

I was thinking of this earlier. I imagine "terry" towelling is best, so the ideal solution might be to buy the plain terry towelling squares sold as nappies (diapers).

Just buy them new and unused.:eek: (Although I remember reading that you can buy used ones from laundry services that have rented them out - the repeated washings will have made them super soft and that makes them ideal for cleaning cars.)

I couldn't bring myself to order new nappies so I'll stick with an old microfibre towel for now. They feel awful if used as towels, but they act like sponges when soaked so are quite good for soaking the face. :)

The main problem I have experienced is the towels lack to keep the heat in them.Also I'm a bit vain(is that the right word)
So I tought it would be cool to have some designated shaving towels...

ack! they're not made from 100% cotton fibers. Neither is the thread used to sew them. (No restriction on labeling something 100% cotton when it's not if it's manufactured outside of the US). Fine for your face but not ideal for your car.

I bought a few small sized terry cloth towels, the highest weight they had, from one of the large retailers. Anything over 500 g/m² keeps the temp for a while as they absorb a lot of water for the size. :)

for towels i just use the ones in the car washing section at wal mart... they are terry and larger than regular washrags but a tad smaller than hand towels.... getting a towel that is special for shaving seems like a waste. but i'm a nubo
