I find WTG then XTG is all I ever need.
Voted WTG and ATG, but actually I do WTG/XTG above my jawline, and WTG/ATG below the jawline. Except my chin, which gets XTG on both passes, one LR and the other RL.
I didn't vote.
I do 1 WTG
then 2 ATG
My beard is nuts and I have to shave up, down, left, and right to get it BBS. There's still some parts I can't manage under the neck line because I haven't figured how to angle the blade to get it.
I cant vote as my choice isn't up there! I do 1 pass with, against, and across the grain. Just 1 pass, and it matters not which way the whiskers grow. My second pass is strictly against the grain or across the grain, that is, if I do a second pass. I usually just do a touch up!
I wonder if I'm the only one who does 2 wtg passes.? I don't actually prefer bbs. Just a nice smooth shave. Anyone else go just wtg?
I do them all because the better the shave the more attention from my lady. Plus after 2 passes i am still jonsing to keep shaving, i cant get enough time with my razors
Recently, I've been doing a pass and a half. I go downwards on my first pass, and then I lather up my neck, chin, upper lip, and a bit of my lower face and go TTC (Towards The Chin). It's kind of like a cleanup pass, but not really.
One is enough if you know what you are doing, but it would not be strictly with the grain.
I do two using the gradual stubble removal technique. I have no problems with razor burn trying to get bbs in one pass as I used to do. I enjoy a second pass anyhow for the pleasure of lathering after the rinse.
I voted wtg/xtg but like mparker and some of the other posters there is some ATG in the mix depending on the area of my face and neck.
Add me to the all three category. I usually only have to shave once or twice a week and I like to give it just a little bit extra attention when I do.
all three. i love to show off and brag about the bbs shave to the people who use the mach 10's:D
WTG, ATG for me.
Nope you're not the only one: I usually do 2 WTG passes and I have a clean and comfortable shave (for 6 to 8 hours); if I need a BBS shave - usually for a special occasion or, as I shave in the morning, if I need a clean shave in the evening - I do my usual 2 WTG passes and one more ATG (if I choose this setup, I normally wait one day before shaving again: I have noticed that if I do the BBS shave two consecutive days I increase the risk of razor burns).
WTG + XTG + ATG + Water Pass = BBS
I do the basic 3 wtg, xtg, atg usually followed by specific clean up areas atg. The chin usually gets a couple wtg so that the atg is easier.
My technique is changing as I am exploring new territories on a daily basis. ;)
I do two passes on my sideburns (WTG, ATG) and below my jaw bone (2x XTG, my grain is horizontal there) and three passes everywhere else.
I really find that a pass with the grain and one across the grain works great for me. Then just a little clean up on a couple of tricky areas and sticky smooth. I have noticed that when I have tried a three pass type shave, that my face is easier to redden and get a little blotchy.

Maybe your razor isn't sharp enough?
Just kidding Lynn!
On days when I'm just shaving for the sake of shaving, I do a single wtg. When I'm testing razors, I do wtg, atg, xtg, and just enough atg for assessment or I risk redness occasionally as well. I guess mine aren't sharp enough either!
A couple.
Usually I focus on the ATG passes to clean up.
That's what I do most often, though I sometimes squeeze in a 2nd XTG pass in the opposite direction to the first.
But occasionally I force myself to do just two passes (WTG/XTG), almost deliberately setting out to get a bad shave. It's a way of counteracting the obsession with perfection. But the results are still very good. To be honest even one N-S pass can give a respectable looking shave if you force yourself to stop there.
My lather is crammed full of stubble after the first pass. After that I see hardly any.
Here's today's first pass stuff::rofl2: Take THAT, whiskers!

I need to do THREE at least to get a smooth shave. My facial hair is like copper wiring.
I usually do 2 wtg. If I am feeling froggy and do a 3rd pass, it is a combination pass of atg neck to jawline and then xtg ear to chin.
I'm an oddball because I do ATG first followed by WTG and then XTG. That's what I do when I shave on a daily basis otherwise I do a normal three pass. I guess it's a habit I've developed back when I started shaving - I always did a single pass ATG with a multi blade, and when I used DEs I also started with ATG pass first if I was shaving daily.
This is because after WTG/XTG passes my hair is too short and stiff and causes blades to skip, essentially removing nothing - this is true even with a multiblade/DEs unless I press the sucker into my face, so it's not an issue of blade sharpness.
I did a 2 pass shave this morning, about 6 hours ago, and now I can feel a hint of stubble if I rub my face. This morning's shave was nice and close too: good lather, good razor, good shave. Could it be that my face is shrinking?
I voted 1 wtg & 1 xtg but it's not the whole thruth. It is my "basic" routine at the moment though it doesn't give pure bbs result. I do also 1 wtg+1 atg passes + touch ups few times a week to reach the closer shave.
WTG, ATG for me.
WTG, XTG and ATG for me.

I do WTG and ATG and a little XTG in spots...
